[NJ] Barbara Vanaman shot & killed by police officer husband

Initially the news reported that last week Millville Police Officer Robert Vanaman shot his wife Barbara to defend himself from her knife attack. But after a day the quoted law enforcement spokespersons and media alike have been asking aloud - who stabbed him? Vanaman decided to not freely talk to investigators and has retreated with a lawyer.

  3. another cover-up, typical in this political county which is run by the "almighty white men" who continue to have no respect for women. women are still fighting for their rights here.

  4. I beleive there are alot of political cover-ups in Cumberland County NJ. It is a good ol' boy network.

There are many "good" cops in Millville; however, there are more "bad" cops...and they do have a "blue" loyalty to one another.

I am aware of more than a few domestic issues that were ignored, swept under the rug, or simply discounted. There is definately a lack of respect for women, and especially single women. A very provencial mentality.

I don't think anyone will ever really know what happened to Barbara... and her family will not have peace.

    Millville officer may rejoin force
    September 28, 2006
    From staff reports
A suspended police officer may be able to rejoin the police force because a state appellate court has reversed a court order that prevented him from carrying a gun...

I just passed this and I want to say that I knew barb personally, she was a secretary at the creative achevement school in vineland, nj. I lived with her sister Cindy Locke and I also was a student of her aunt Elkie Spinato, I knew her and her husband and children and they had a couple of bumps and bruises like a normal family and what happened to her I will say was wrong. No one can bring my friend Barb back... and robert, I had lost my respects for him but I adore his mother dearly, she is a very nice lady and I feel sorry that she has to burden all of this due to it was her son who did this... *shakes head* after these few years this still bothers me...

  8. What's even more outrageous, is the law deemed the penalty for taking this woman's life should be MAX: 11 years. And the judge sentenced him 9 years. This is appalling. This judge said he relied on testimony he was an engaged hands on father. So what?? He in not being sentenced for child neglect. Murder. Murder?? Does that even mean anything anymore??
