[Excerpts] An New York City police officer - accused of hiring another man to kill his ex-wife - appeared in a Long Island courtroom Friday morning where he entered a plea of not guilty in connection with the crime. Officer Anthony Battisti, 42, a 17-year veteran of the force was suspended by the NYPD, after allegations surfaced that he had hired a hit-man to attack his ex-wife, 44-year-old Patricia Battisti. According to prosecutors, Patricia Battisti was stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver outside the couple's Franklin Square home in January. Battisti paid 37-year-old Timothy Gersbeck, who had worked as a handyman for the officer, to execute the assault on his ex-wife because he was jealous of her new boyfriend, investigators said... Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice reacted to the news about the indictment with remorse. "I'm sickened by this officer's betrayal of the badge... We cannot let one single act by one officer overshadow the brave work by men and women who wear the uniform and put themselves in harm's way every day to protect our families and our neighborhoods." Battisti reportedly met his wife Patricia when both were enrolled in the New York City Police Academy. The couple also served together in the Bronx's 41st Precinct before Patricia Battisit left the department, the New York Daily News reported. [Full article here]

[Excerpts] .A veteran Queens cop was charged Friday with hiring a hitman to rub out his ex-wife. Officer Anthony Battisti looked down and said nothing as his lawyer pleaded not guilty on his behalf... "We're talking about a guy who openly committed a crime and then looked for the easiest way out," Scaring said. "The easiest way out was to attack a police officer, accuse him of it." Scaring also said Battisti had no motive for murdering his ex because he was getting custody of his kids and "everything was working in my client's favor." Prosecutor Michael Canty said the fact that Battisti is a police officer "makes these charges all the more egregious. He conspired with another individual to execute his ex-wife," Canty said... Timothy Gersbeck, 34, was arrested after cops say he stabbed 44-year-old Patricia Battisti in the neck with a screwdriver outside the Franklin Square, L.I., home she once shared with the officer... He told investigators Battisti ordered the rubout because he was jealous of his ex-wife's new love interest - a city firefighter. Battisti's mom insisted her son would "never, ever do anything like that." "Why would he kill the mother of his children?" Mary Ann Battisti said. "He's the best father in the world"... http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2009/09/04/2009-09-04_queens_cop_.html

[Excerpts] ...Anthony Battisti had asked his handyman to do odd jobs in the past. But in January of this year, the New York City police officer came up with an especially odd one - killing his ex-wife, prosecutors said... Gersbeck was charged in January with going to Patricia Battisti's Franklin Square home and stabbing her three times in the back of her neck with a screwdriver. Patricia Battisti, 44, survived the attack. Gersbeck's case has since been sealed and prosecutors will not comment on it. Battisti's lawyer, Stephen Scaring of Garden City, said it's likely Gersbeck's case is sealed because he is cooperating with prosecutors. At Battisti's arraignment in Mineola on Friday, prosecutor Michael Canty asked Nassau County Judge David Sullivan to hold Battisti without bail... According to New York City police, Battisti was suspended in January and remains suspended. In standard NYPD practice, an internal investigation will be conducted after the criminal proceedings are complete... [Full article here]

I am not sure unto what to think of this because I know Tony for more than 15 years and have never known him to be this monster the press is painting... I pray that the truth comes out and that God has his way... I pray for both families and hope there is a solution not just for her but for him and their children... bren
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? I've worked with Tony for years and I can totally see him doing something like this. How many times did he go around telling everyone how much he hated her and wished she was dead. I know that alone doesn't make you guilty, but the guy has always had a violent side. I remember when he got suspened for fighting with another cop. He was always on the shit list at work.
ReplyDeleteWhats the Status with this case?
ReplyDeleteI posted your your question in this Topix group:

There are people who know things about the case there, even though most of the posts now are people just having side-arguments. If you find anything out, please update me.
I knew him too and I can totally see him doing this - he was a stalker and had a hard time letting things go - to say the least...
ReplyDeleteI worked with Patti. Everyday they would be in a heated agruement of the phone. She would tell me what a horrible parent he was.
ReplyDeleteBattisti has been found not guilty on all charges
ReplyDeleteNOT GUILTY JACKASSES!
ReplyDelete[NYPD] The hitman is going to prison, but NOT NYPD Officer Anthony Battisti - who the hitman says hired him to kill ex-wife Patricia
ReplyDeletehttp://behindthebluewall.blogspot.com/2010/06/nypd-hitman-is-going-to-prison-but-not.html
I know anthony for a while now and his kids. i dont think anthony would have done that because patty exaggerates things to the extreme. im just home the kids are safe no mater where they live
ReplyDeleteI'm going through old emails and see that someone sent a comment about a deliberate fire that was set, and in the comment also naming all of Anthony's siblings I guess as proof that they know him. I won't say here who lit the fire etc but if anyone knows more about that feel free to send me an email. I didn't post it here because it's too directly accusatory with no proof - not saying it didn't happen. It's just not fair to post.
ReplyDeleteHere's a question. Was Anthony at one time a volunteer firefighter?
DeleteYes, he was. He was actually Chief of the Franklin Sq. & Munson Fire Department at one time.
DeleteIs there any current information on the lawsuit Tony was filling against Nassau County for millions? He stated it was due to the violation of his civil rights.
