[Excerpts] A Decatur Police Officer is off the job after being arrested and charged with domestic violence. It happened Monday night at a home on Bedford Drive. The victim told investigators that she was assaulted and had a rifle pointed at her earlier that night. The woman says that her estranged husband, Decatur Police Officer Mitchell Breland, was the one responsible. Investigators found that the victim's chin and neck has minor injuries... [Excerpts] Decatur Police arrested one their own Tuesday morning for domestic violence. Police arrested patrol officer Mitchell Breland for domestic violence third degree... Officers say the wife fled the home to the safety of a friend. The victim told police she had been assaulted and that officer Breland pointed an assault rifle at her... "Anytime we have an officer who is alleged to have done something wrong especially a situation that is violent," said Lt. Jonathan Green with the Decatur Police Department. "We take it very seriously. We don't condone these type of actions"... Breland had worked with the Decatur Police Department since 2007.   1. Please note that the wife admitted in court that she lied and all charges were dropped. Domestic abuse is horrible, but so is lying and trying to destroy a person's reputation.

  2. It's called "recanting" - and a good proporton of officer-involved domestic violence victims do it - say they lied or change their story so the officer will not lose their job, or because they are threatened to.

  3. This same officer has now been arrested for beating his twin girls ages 8 years of age. I know the family personally and this is just another in a long line of out of controls beatings he has given his wives and children.
