Documents stated Cox was involved in a heated exchange with another officer at the police department. The argument was broken up and Cox was told not to communicate with the other officer until the matter was resolved. After the meeting, Cox approached the officer in the parking lot and attempted to communicate about a violation, and he made an inappropriate statement after being instructed to have no further communication. Reports said Cox also lost his peace officer enforcement powers for a week in July last year, after not complying with the required annual in-service training, even after being given an 180-day extension to complete the training. Last month, Cox was reassigned to patrol duties in a non-supervisory position and his pay was docked by more than $2 an hour.
