Sherman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
A Pittsburgh police sergeant accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend likely will lose his job by the end of the week. Sgt. Eugene F. Hlavac Jr., 42, yesterday met with top police brass in the office of Chief Nate Harper, who told the sergeant his punishment would be "five days suspension, pending termination," said Officer Dan O'Hara, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1, who also attended the meeting... The internal police bureau charges against Sgt. Hlavac include unbecoming conduct for an officer, disobedience of orders and laws, failure to follow the law enforcement code of ethics, and a domestic violence incident... Officer O'Hara called Chief Harper's decision a "miscarriage of justice." He blamed women's advocacy groups for pressuring the city to dismiss Sgt. Hlavac before the sergeant had a chance to challenge his criminal charges and prove his innocence. "This should have been tried in the courts," he said... "I'm pleased the chief has recognized how serious this is," said Jeanne Clark, president of the Squirrel Hill branch of the National Organization for Women. "It's a good message to the women for the city -- violence against them will be treated seriously."... [Public Safety Director Michael] Huss issued a statement through a spokesperson: "The administration is taking this matter very seriously and as such will not be making comments that may compromise the appeal process"... Sgt. Hlavac's formal arraignment on the simple assault charge is scheduled for Feb. 22. His criminal defense attorney, Phillip DiLucente, has said there are at least two independent witnesses who will contradict [victim LM]'s description of the attack... "It is utterly unacceptable for anyone to strike the mother of his child so hard that her jaw is dislocated," Lisa Bennington, [LM]'s attorney, said yesterday... [LM] also accused Sgt. Hlavac of assaulting her twice in 2007, both incidents that resulted in calls to police but no criminal charges. The incidents also occurred the same year the sergeant was promoted to his current rank, one of three police promotions involving officers accused of domestic abuse that sparked a public uproar... "This was in his private life," [O'Hara] said of Sgt. Hlavac. "It has nothing to do with his professional life"...

Oh wow O'Hara.
Wow.
How dinosaur of you.
Domestic violence IS NO LONGER A PRIVATE ISSUE.
Dem dayz are done.Behind The Blue Wallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04429113203939514642noreply@blogger.com
