I think the last 15 min of his life DO define him and it tears at my heart to listen to the daughter crying and worrying and seeing what she did!

"wonderful. Hard worker. Punctual. Had *light* conversations about his family "(which leads me to believe she didn't know that much about him)

Great traits for anyone, until you hunt your wife down in a car and try to kill her and your poor kid is witness to the whole thing.

They still don't get it though. AH, the truth hurts and people ARE dying. Children, women and officers.

Instead of painting him as some great guy who just snapped we need to figure out how to see the signs before it gets to this point and have help in place for officers and their families.

I sure didn't advertise to the world my problems and my ex would get the same wonderful standing ovation! My, the masks we wear!

It is far easier to ignore the elephant in the living room and point the fingers at someone else though, isn't it?

I emailed Mother Jones, love. As usual, no one seems alarmed at any of this.

Love ya girlie...your Ohio gal!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11646417.post-68858854018654308572007-08-12T16:44:00.000-07:002007-08-12T16:44:00.000-07:00Letter to the editor: Unfair depiction of career p...Letter to the editor: Unfair depiction of career police officer
Wednesday, July 25, 2007

In the time since Rex Mehaffey took his own life, I have been angered by The Plain Dealer's reporting. This newspaper was quick to paint a picture of Rex without investigating the person or police officer that he was.

Having worked in the same district for about 10 years, I had plenty of opportunity to observe him. Rex Mehaffey was a fine role model. He came to work on time, dressed in proper uniform and ready to do his job. I was lucky enough to have had light conversations with him to see the obvious affection that he had for his family, especially his daughter.

Shame on The Plain Dealer for painting him with the same broad brush as Bobby Cutts Jr.

Rex Mehaffey was a fine police officer and a loving family man. What led him to a place where he committed an act that was completely contrary to his character, we may never know. But the last 15 minutes of his life do not define him. He was respected by the men and women who served with him, and he will be deeply missed.

Jody Remington

Cleveland

http://www.cleveland.com/letters/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/opinion/1185439147128710.xml&coll=2Behind The Blue Wallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04429113203939514642noreply@blogger.com
