Omaha World-...Married officers face charges in feud
Omaha World-Herald
By Leia Baez-Mendoza
Sep 21, 2009

Charges have been filed against married law enforcement officers who accused each other of breaking the law during unruly domestic disputes.

Special Prosecutor Don Schense filed charges this morning against Sarpy County Deputy Dana M. Harrah and La Vista Police Officer Wesley Harrah in connection with an Aug. 9 disturbance at their Papillion home.

Dana Harrah was charged with domestic violence, third-degree assault, disturbing the peace and interfering with a public service. Wesley Harrah was charged with disturbing the peace. All of the charges are misdemeanors.

Schense said the charge of interfering with a public service is in connection with Dana Harrah’s reported attempt to stop Wesley’s call to 911.

According to petitions for protection orders the Harrahs had filed against each other, the disturbance on Aug. 9 started as a conversation about divorce that turned verbally and physically abusive. The Harrahs since have dropped their requests for protection orders.

Wesley Harrah filed for divorce Aug. 10.

The Harrahs, who both are on administrative leave, are scheduled to be in court next week.

La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten and Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis said they are conducting internal affairs investigations.

Mike Behm, executive director of the Nebraska Crime Commission, said a Nebraska law enforcement certification can be revoked if a law enforcement officer is convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors, including domestic violence. He said that under federal guidelines, a person convicted of domestic violence cannot be a law enforcement officer.

Schense, an attorney from Bellevue, was appointed to act as special prosecutor in the case because the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office has close working relationships with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office and the La Vista Police Department.

Contact the writer:

444-1336, leia.mendoza@owh.com

http://www.omaha.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090921/NEWS01/709219877&template=printartBehind The Blue Wallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04429113203939514642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11646417.post-71567082830557120132013-10-25T23:54:27.383-07:002013-10-25T23:54:27.383-07:00DEPUTY GETS PROBATION IN DISPUTE
