Courtney Crooks, 24, who was fired by the department for a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence, reported the 8 p.m. incident. Crooks pleaded not guilty to the domestic violence charge and is headed to trial in February. From Crooks’ report, a SWAT team surrounded his neighbor’s Coronado Court apartment and eventually carried out the alleged shooter, Derek Eugene Sheley, 46, who is paraplegic. Law enforcement originally reported that Sheley was quadriplegic... Camper was dealing with the fallout from one internal investigation of a Grand Junction police officer — fallout that included a highly critical editorial from this newspaper — when an even bigger allegation of police misconduct hit... Our beef with the interim chief stemmed from his decision not to release documents from the internal investigation of another former police officer, Courtney Crooks. He resigned Sept. 16 after he was charged with misdemeanor physical harassment for an incident involving his wife.
