I'm surprised that haven't been more homicides since.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11646417.post-18638516316225057532010-06-19T00:56:39.476-07:002010-06-19T00:56:39.476-07:00This sentence made my blood boil.
There have been...This sentence made my blood boil.
There have been women featured on this site (not to mention elsewhere) who have had legitimate cases of battered women syndrome and have still gotten the book thrown at them.
I fear Joni Holbrook will be another battered woman who will get a lengthy prison term despite the fact it appears her husband beat and abused her and she had nowhere to turn.
That's not present in this case. Emma pretty much admitted from the start Ramon was killed not because he was abusing her on a regular basis, not because he had told her he would kill her if she dared to leave him, and not because she was in fear of her life...but because he *GASP* refused to cook her dinner. How horrid!
Joni should ditch the battered wife defense and simply say Melvin wouldn't fix up a steak for her. That should get her five years or less.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11646417.post-57253033515804819222010-06-16T13:40:36.150-07:002010-06-16T13:40:36.150-07:00In response to your question, maybe her involvemen...In response to your question, maybe her involvement with law enforcement did play a part in her sentence, but I am almost 100% positive that her being a woman did too. THink about it: she admitted that she did it out of anger, she did lie during the investigation, and she was proven of intentionally murdering her husband. Would a man get such a light sentence? No. I know for a fact. My cousin's husband just got 10 years for shooting her intentionally, point-blank, and I thought THAT was light.

On a side note, I am a woman, so no, this isn't some sexist pig comment. Just pointing out the obvious.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
