[SC] NCPD POLICE LT. TERRELL STALKED WIFE WITH COP EQUIPMENT BUT KEPT HIS JOB

North Charleston Police Lt. Ryan Terrell was demoted and put on 6 months of probation instead of being FIRED after domestic abuse stalking with police equipment, terroristic threatening, threats to harm fellow officer, and lying to investigators to cover his crimes. Not only did he keep his job but this month - if he can be believed - also became an officer for the Goose Creek Police Department according to his LinkedIn page. (Tell me how he electronically surveilled his wife with city cameras without also putting a tracker on her car...) One officer committing crimes doesn't make a department look bad - how the department responds does.

SOUTH CAROLINA COP DEMOTED FOR USING CITY CAMERAS TO TRACK WIFE HE SUSPECTED OF CHEATING WITH FELLOW OFFICER

June 26, 2024

[EXCERPTS, my comments in brackets] A snooping South Carolina police officer was knocked down in rank for using local city-wide cameras to spy on his wife who he SUSPECTED was cheating on him with his colleague. Ryan Terrell - a former North Charleston Police Department lieutenant - abused his power to track down his wife on at least three occasions... Terrell’s clandestine behavior was revealed after he allegedly threatened to harm a sergeant suspected of having a romantic relationship with his wife on April 11... He then aired his anger to several of his colleagues, WHO REPORTED HIM TO THE OFFICE OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS after they became concerned he may follow through with his APPARENT THREAT [IT MUST HAVE BEEN A CONVINCING THREAT FOR HIS FELLOW COPS TO TURN HIM IN]... But after investigators interviewed Terrell, his wife, and the sergeant, it was deemed to be an empty threat. [HOW DO THEY "DEEM" A THREAT IN THIS SITUATION TO BE EMPTY?] During the probe, however, TERRELL ADMITTED HE TOLD HIS WIFE HE’D GO TO JAIL IF HE CAUGHT HER [TERRORISTIC THREATENING! ]... Terrell claimed he only did so because he was concerned for his WIFE'S SAFETY... HOWEVER, FURTHER ANALYSIS BY INVESTIGATORS SHOWED HE ***EXCESSIVELY*** USED THE CAMERAS TO SPY ON HER. [= HE LIED TO INVESTIGATORS AND WAS ACTIVELY STALKING HER WITH THE HIGH TECH HE WAS IN CHARGE OF]... Terrell had easy access to the devices since he oversaw the city’s camera system. Terrell was demoted to Master Patrol Officer and given six months probation over his distrustful behavior. ["DISTRUSTFUL?" HOW ABOUT UNTRUSTWORTHY LYING / LYING DURING AN INVESTIGATION, POLICE-POLICY-VIOLATING, CRIMINAL STALKING, MISUSE OF POLICE EQUIPMENT THAT SHOULD ALL GET HIM ARRESTED, KICKED OUT AND BARRED FROM BEING AN OFFICER?] He was also removed from his position as the camera system’s overseer and had his access to the technology stripped away. The officer was then busted down to the Patrol Division. [HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BUSTED OUT THE DOOR AND INTO A JAIL CELL. IT'S AN EMBARASSMENT TO THE COPS WHO DO THEIR JOBS CORRECTLY AT NCPD.]... IT'S NOT A NEW CRIME. TOO MANY PARTNERS OF OFFICERS KNOW THE FEELING OF BEING TRACKED, EVEN WHEN THEY AREN'T.
FROM DIANE WETENDORF'S ABUSE OF POWER WEBSITE, ON THE ABUSE TACTICS PAGE - SURVEILLANCE:
"...If your batterer suspects that you are having an affair or hiding anything from him, he might use his police training and equipment to keep you under surveillance. Stalking you physically or electronically robs you of your sense of privacy and control over your life. He might let you know when you return home that he knows where you've been and whom you've been with. He might repeat things you've confided to friends in (what you thought were) private phone conversations or other correspondence. He tells you that he knows these things because he knows you so well, but you come to suspect that he is spying on you. You may find yourself altering your behavior based upon the possibility that he is watching, thus internalizing and increasing his control over you..." [LINK]
