[Excerpts] A Pittsburgh police officer who was fired last summer was arrested yesterday for allegedly making false statements under oath about his former boss. Edmond N. Gaudelli Jr., 35, fired from his job in July for unrelated disciplinary reasons, was charged with perjury and false swearing with regard to statements he's made under oath about city Police Chief Robert W. McNeilly Jr... The charges stem from a 1998 domestic violence call Gaudelli said he responded to at the home of McNeilly and his wife, police Cmdr. Catherine McNeilly. "This never occurred. It was false," said Pittburgh police Cmdr. Linda Barrone, who oversees the special investigations and integrity unit. Barrone said that no other officers, paperwork or emergency tapes supported Gaudelli's claim... "It's unfortunate that [Gaudelli is] as troubled as he is," said McNeilly. "It's regrettable that I became the object of his attacks. I think it was important for the investigation to be done. I think the charges demonstrate that we as police officers have to be accountable for what we say"...
