Willard Police Officer Joshua M. Dorsey was released this morning from Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with his personal weapon Sunday. The incident happened about 9:55 p.m. in the police locker room as Dorsey was reporting for duty. "Officer Dorsey was removing his firearm and holster from his belt and the gun fired and struck Officer Dorsey in his right thigh, right calf and the top of his right foot. Officer Dorsey was the only person in the locker room at the time of the incident," Chief Joe Daniel said. Dorsey exited the locker room and reported the incident to Sgt. Steve Weiss. "The Willard rescue squad was summoned and first aid was administered to Officer Dorsey," Daniel said. After initially being taken to Mercy Willard Hospital, he later was transported to Mercy St. Vincent. [LINK]

[OH] Officer Dorsey accused of attacking girlfriend and her 5 year old daughter spent 50 minutes in jail

...The suspect is accused of holding a knife to his girlfriend's throat... reportedly pushed the woman's 5-year-old daughter, causing her to lose her balance and hit her head... knocking the same girl to the ground and screaming in her face... dumping a bucket of Pine Sol on his girlfriend's car, kicking her in the stomach and shoving her out of the house... girlfriend [is] "hesitant" about pursuing charges against Dorsey...

[Excerpts] A special prosecutor has been assigned to pursue the domestic violence case against Willard Police Officer Joshua M. Dorsey. R. Lee Shepherd, of Shelby, will represent the state after Willard Assistant Law Director Scott Christophel filed a motion Tuesday in Norwalk Municipal Court. The defendant, Dorsey, 27, of 127 Crestwood Drive, is represented by defense attorney Richard Hauser... The suspect is accused of holding a knife to his girlfriend's throat... After Dorsey reportedly pushed the woman's 5-year-old daughter, causing her to lose her balance and hit her head on a nearby couch, the officer is further accused of knocking the same girl to the ground and screaming in her face while holding her there... dumping a bucket of Pine Sol on his girlfriend's car, kicking her in the stomach and shoving her out of the house... Strong described the girlfriend as being "hesitant" about pursuing charges against Dorsey, but wrote that she said she would do it so Dorsey "learns a lesson and doesn't do this again to myself or someone else." Dorsey was released from jail after spending nearly 50 minutes behind bars and posting a $5,000 bond the day of the incident. WILLARD COP ACCUSED OF HOLDING KNIFE AT GIRLFRIEND'S JAW

[Excerpts] A Willard police officer accused of assaulting the mother of one of his children is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing Tuesday in Norwalk Municipal Court. Joshua M. Dorsey, 27, of 127 Crestwood Drive, is charged with two counts of domestic violence in connection with an Aug. 6 incident. If convicted of the first-degree misdemeanors, he could face up to six months in the Huron County Jail and a $1,000 maximum fine on each charge. Dorsey was released from jail after spending nearly 50 minutes behind bars and posting a $5,000 bond the day of the incident... Chief Joe Daniel, in an Aug. 7 letter to Dorsey, ordered the officer to turn his department firearms or weapons into him or Assistant Chief Mark Holden. The chief also prohibited him from performing "the duties and responsibilities of a Willard police officer" or possessing any weapons or firearms which would identify him as a member of the department... About 1:30 p.m. Aug. 6, Detective Adam Strong said he reported meeting with Daniel, who had received a call from Huron County Children Services about Dorsey reportedly pushing "a small child into a piece of furniture and had possibly assaulted his girlfriend"... WILLARD — A Willard police officer has been restricted to administrative duties after being charged in a domestic situation, according to Willard City Hall. Joshua Dorsey, 28, of Willard was charged with two counts of domestic violence and was ordered to stay away from the woman, according to Norwalk Municipal Court. Dorsey is accused of assaulting the woman while off duty at his residence on Aug. 6, stated a press release. He was taken to the Huron County jail following the incident. Dorsey, who answered the phone at the police department yesterday afternoon, had no comment. [LINK]

A Willard police officer accused of pressing a knife to the chin of his girlfriend and kicking her in the stomach was ordered on Tuesday to undergo anger management and fined $150. Joshua Dorsey, 28, a member of the Willard Police Department since February 2008, pleaded no contest in Norwalk Municipal Court on Tuesday to disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor. [LINK]
