Deputy Charged With Domestic Battery

A [Hernando County] deputy is on paid leave following his arrest on a charge of domestic battery. Tommy Harris' live-in girlfriend told police in January that he picked her up and dropped her in the apartment they share with their young son in Brooksville. When police spoke with Harris, he told them that the victim slapped him across the face first. He attempted to guide her out of the room by bumping her chest to chest, but she tripped and fell in the hallway, an arrest report states. The girlfriend reportedly said from the floor, "You're finished. I'm calling the police. You're losing your job." Harris was not arrested that night due to lack of physical evidence and independent witnesses. The Brooksville Police Department's Lt. Rick Hankins forwarded the case to the State Attorney's Office for a filing decision. Harris, 42, said Wednesday the charge will be disputed, but "in court, not in the media"... [Full article here]
