[Excerpts] The police chief of Mortons Gap, Kentucky has been suspended from his duties after being charged with 4th degree assault. We also learned that the police chief has a previous criminal record. Chief Donald Jay Herron, 50, was issued a criminal summons earlier this month, accused of assaulting his wife. This week, Frank Stafford, Mayor of Mortons Gap, made the decision to suspend Herron as police chief. Herron is suspended without pay due to an incident deputies say took place on December 2... [Their] son showed deputies a text from his mother saying Donald had assaulted her and broken things in the kitchen. The children also said they witnessed Donald with his hand around Dorothy's neck... Mayor Stafford says Herron voluntarily took the suspension... 14 News looked into his previous criminal record.
