[Excerpts] A Greenville County sheriff’s deputy was terminated Saturday after he was charged with pointing a gun at a female acquaintance that he’d gotten into an argument with in Simpsonville, a deputy said. The deputy, Eric McKaig, 43, of 715 Peterman Place, Greer, was charged with pointing a gun at a person, assault of high and aggravated nature, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy Melissia McKinney and several arrest warrants. McKaig is also accused of striking and throwing objects at an unidentified woman, who summoned deputies to 114 Morell Drive at 3 p.m... When two deputies responded to a domestic violence call, McKaig allegedly kicked and pushed the officers who were trying to separate the two... McKaig was later charged with two counts of resisting arrest and assaulting the two lawmen... Later, Sheriff Steve Loftis terminated McKaig... The first time, he was employed from 1996 through 2003; he was rehired from 2005 to the present... Loftis was advised of McKaig’s action and directed his direct supervisor to fire him. [Excerpts] ...Greenville County deputies said Saturday that they arrested a former deputy while responding to a disturbance call in Simpsonville... According to Greenville County Sheriff's Office, [Eric] McKaig had been assigned a deputy with the sheriff's office but was terminated from that position after the disturbance call was received.... McKaig was charged with one count of pointing and presenting a firearm, one count of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer while resisting arrest, according to the sheriff's office. I don't have the details but the sheriff did, and with those details he made his professional decision. What I appreciate is that McKaig was held in detention, which gave the woman a little time to make her decisions or head for higher ground if she chose to.

ReplyDeleteI know him also and I don't believe that this is outside the scope of his capabilities. Nothing about this man is even good certianly not great and I have no doubt that he will never get what he truly deserves!!!
