[Excerpts] DAYTONA BEACH -- The girlfriend of a city police officer killed herself with the policeman's service pistol as he readied for work, police officials said Monday. While autopsy results have not been released yet on 31-year-old Cathryn Moore of Port Orange, police said preliminary findings show she shot herself in the apartment of Chris Reeder, 38. Reeder was in the shower before 5 a.m. Saturday when Moore - who was in the policeman's apartment - used his service gun to shoot herself in Reeder's bedroom, Police Chief Mike Chitwood said. At least 10 officers responded to the apartment... Reeder told police Moore was upset with him that morning, but he didn't remember why. Moore died shortly after the officers arrived... An investigation is under way to determine what happened in the apartment that night, Chitwood said. Any time a law enforcement officer's gun is fired, the incident is investigated, the chief said... Reeder also has been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is also standard procedure... In January 2008, Reeder was the officer who found the body of a woman who Chitwood said could likely be the fourth victim of a serial killer who had already shot three other female victims. Sitting in his patrol car on a frigid January night, Reeder was parked in an empty lot at the 1600 block of Hancock Boulevard near an empty church and a thick patch of woods. The officer said a sour odor was coming from the wooded area and he walked in a ways to investigate. That's when he spotted the body of Stacey Gage, a 30-year-old Holly Hill mother who had been missing about a month, police said [Full article here]

    1. It's hard for me to imagine that a police officer would repeatedly / intentionally leave his dna unless he deceptively left someone else's dna. Are those murders still happening? I agree it's good to do the test to at least rule him out though.

      Stacey Charlene Gage
...The body of Stacey Gage was found in a densely wooded area in the 1600 block of Hancock Boulevard, near an abandoned church, in Daytona Beach on January 2, 2008. Officer Chris Reeder was surveying the area, known as a location for illegal activity. Police believe Gage had been murdered where she was found... Daytona Beach Chief Michael Chitwood said her killing "eerily similar" to three other slayings in the city since 2005 and could be linked to the same suspect. The connected deaths of Iwana Patton, Laquetta Gunther and Julie Green gained national attention in 2006. All of the victims were sexually assaulted and shot at close range. DNA has been left at all of the crime scenes...
