[Excerpt] An Albuquerque Police Department officer was arrested Sunday night accused of battery against his wife. According to police, 40-year-old APD Officer Christian Baker is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. In the criminal complaint, Baker's wife told police they were arguing about family issues at their house. Then there was a struggle over a laptop computer and that's when she says baker kicked her three times in the back. When she tried to call police, she said Baker grabbed the phone from her... [Excerpts] An Albuquerque police officer was arrested early Monday on domestic violence charges after he allegedly kicked a woman in the back several times and took her cellphone to keep her from calling authorities, according to court records. Christian D. Baker, 40, was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center around 4 a.m. on charges of battery upon a household member, interference with communications and domestic violence, according to court and jail records. Baker, who was off duty at the time, was released on his own recognizance from the West Side jail later Monday... APD Sgt. Patrick Ficke said Baker, who has been with the department since 2001, was placed on paid administrative leave Monday, pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation... The woman told police that during a struggle, Baker kicked her in the back at least three times and pinned her against a dresser. She also said that while the two were outside in the driveway, Baker took away her cellphone when she tried to call police. The woman called authorities from a neighbor’s house... Baker said he “shoved her away with his foot in an attempt to get away from her,” the complaint said. Baker told police the woman dropped the cellphone in the driveway... [Full article here]
