MUNCIE - A city police officer who allegedly threw rocks at the car of her ex-husband's girlfriend has been charged with criminal mischief. The Class A misdemeanor charge -- which carries a maximum one-year jail term -- was filed Thursday against Jaime L. Howell in Delaware Circuit Court 4 by Special Prosecutor Wesley Schemenaur, Jay County's chief deputy prosecutor. Judge John Feick set an initial hearing for June 2. Howell, 31, is accused of damaging the car of Diana Welch outside the westside apartment of the officer's ex-husband on April 7. Police Chief Deborah Davis put Howell on paid administrative leave and asked the Muncie Police Merit Commission to call a hearing to fire her. A hearing date has not been set.
