James E. Kuehnlein was charged Sunday in St. Louis County Circuit Court with the felony charge of kidnapping, inflicting injury and terrorizing in addition to second-degree domestic assault and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault. The victim was involved in a romantic relationship with Kuehnlein, who is accused of choking her, pulling her hair and head butting her. [Excerpts] A police officer seen in a 2007 videotaped tirade against a driver is at the center of a criminal investigation. James Kuehnlein was fired from the St. George Police Department after the video surfaced. In it, you hear Kuehnline berating the driver, Brett Darrow:  "You want to try me?  You want to try me tonight?  You think you've had a bad night? I will ruin your ****ing night." Charges were never filed, and Kuehnlein went to work for the Velda City Police Department. Now, he faces charges for kidnapping and domestic assault... This isn't the first time Kuehnlein has been in trouble with the law. In 1988 he pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor assault. The crimes were later expunged. The Velda City Police chief tells me that Kuehnlein is on paid, administrative leave for the criminal, domestic charges against him.  The chief took his badge, his duty weapon, even his personal gun... The chief says that code of conduct includes a stipulation that an officer can be dismissed for bringing disgrace upon the department. Kuehnlein's attorney tells me that the officer does not wish to make a statement.  He's home on bond tonight. [Full article here]

"...YEAH YOU'RE A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE RIGHT NOW... YEAH, YOU WANNA TRY ME? YOU WANNA TRY ME TONIGHT? YOU THINK YOU'VE HAD A BAD NIGHT? I WILL RUIN YOUR ****ING NIGHT... YOU WANT TO TRY ME?... 1. AMEN!!! There are good cops out there, but every time I see something like this, I can't help but wonder if the balance is tipping AWAY from the good ones and TOWARD the bad ones! Srtaight up...a cop gets fired, NO OTHER DEPARTMENT SHOULD LEGALLY BE ALOUD TO HIRE THEM!!! In this economic climate, I'm sure if they had better screening, police forces could begin regaining public TRUST by allowing only the best PEOPLE to interact with the public. Look at what this man went on to do AFTER 2 misdemeanor ASSAULT charges WAYYY back in 1988....that should have been a CLEAR message to thos departments tha hired him. Hell, I have one drug charge from when I was 20, and I can't even be a nurse or pharmacy tech...EVER. How many chances do these guys get to potentially harm the public???

Former local police officer sentenced for choking, throwing girlfriend
    MOV.com
    June 14, 2013
(KMOV) – A former Velda City police officer was given probation for choking and assaulting a girlfriend he was dating in 2011.
James Kuehnlein was found guilty of second- and third-degree domestic assault.
According to prosecutors, Kuehnlein went to the apartment of the woman he was dating in May, 2011. They sat down to eat but she noticed he was acting strangely.
The woman then told Kuehnlein to leave but he refused.
Prosecutors said he choked the woman and threw her to the ground. He then pulled a handful of her hair and put his thumb inside her mouth in a “fish hook” motion.
A neighbor heard the woman screaming and called police. Officers arrived to the scene and arrested Kuehnlein.
Police said the woman suffered a minor concussion and injuries to her face and throat.

  4. Former Velda City police officer gets probation for domestic assault

ST. LOUIS • A former Velda City police officer has been placed on probation after a St. Louis jury found him guilty of one count each of misdemeanor and felony domestic assault.

James Kuehnlein, 44, of St. Peters, had been acquitted in April of two other charges against him, a felony kidnapping charge and another misdemeanor domestic assault charge.

Kuehnlein was sentenced Thursday by Circuit Judge Robin Vannoy. Prosecutors had asked that Kuehnlein be sentenced to five years in prison. Vannoy handed down a five year suspended execution of sentence and three years of probation. His record will show he has been convicted of a felony.

A woman he had been dating accused him of snapping during an incident in 2011 at her home, choking her, pulling her hair and head-butting her. She had also accused him of locking her door and not letting her leave during the assault.

Kuehnlein was fired from the police department after the charges were brought against him.

Before Velda City, Kuehnlein had been a St. George police officer, but was fired after a much-publicized 2007 tirade against a motorist was caught on tape.

The driver posted a video of the then-St. George officer taunting, threatening and yelling profanity in a commuter parking lot near Interstate 55. Kuehnlein was fired a few weeks after the incident was reported by the press.

  5. This judge must really LOVE BAD COPS!! All of this guy's criminal history from 1988 forward should justify AT LEAST that 5 year sentence...all he had done and NO JAIL TIME??? Are you kidding me??? Any average Joe without that MAGICAL BADGE would have already done time for this behavior!! And the kicker....he was on PAID leave all the way the way through his trial, if I read the above correctly....we can't afford to pay or teachers a liveing wage but we will pay to keep this OBVIOUSLY TERRIBLE COP from full termination for MONTHS...maybe YEARS: he had already been fired from one PD, but was paid for at least a month's time from his offense to his termination. Are the people in the justice system REALLY this BLIND???
