Court date set for ex-con in murder case

An ex-con facing a murder charge in connection with the Fairfield shooting death of an off-duty Richmond police officer will return to Solano County Superior Court in November for setting of a trial date in the case. Quartus Lee Hinton of Vallejo will return to court at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 15 when his attorney will also seek to have the charges against him dismissed. Hinton was arrested last November in connection with the shooting death of his former girlfriend, Richmond Police Officer Kaliah Ashante Harper, following a memorial service for two children killed in a traffic collision on Highway 12. Harper, 28, of Suisun City, suffered multiple gunshot wounds from a .45-caliber handgun and died at the scene, a short distance from the Fairfield Police Department. Hinton was arrested later in Vallejo, apparently after having tried to bluff police officers into shooting him during a confrontation near the Vallejo Marina.
