[GA] Deputy Huston domestic incident turned into SWAT standoff

Paulding County Sheriff's Deputy Patric Huston refused to communicate or cooperate" with deputies who responded to a domestic violence call from his girlfriend at his Douglasville home. There were reports that Huston was armed and threatened to harm himself. The SWAT team was called out. Huston was taken to Wellstar Paulding Hospital. There he became combative with deputies, according to the GBI.

[Alternately referred to in print as Patrick.]

Video: Deputy is in the custody of the GBI and being held away from the county's jail.

Video: Authorities are clearly upset about having to arrest one of their own. Huston's girlfriend called 911 and he refused to talk to responding deputies - so SWAT teams were called in. "He's a police officer. We know he's armed. I don't know what kind of guns he had, but we know what kind he had that we give him, so we got to bring a SWAT team out to the middle of the subdivision. Our main thing is to get the situation resolved and keep the neighborhood safe." Deputies remained down the street for several hours. "The allegations that are made is that he put a gun to his head and threatened to hurt himself so we took him to the hospital to be evaluated by doctors. Once we arrived at the hospital he decided that he did NOT want to be seen by a doctor and got into it with our deputies on the scene... The whole department right now is hurtin'. It's tough when it's one of your own that gets involved in something we're used to dealing with - with people we don't know. I don't know what happened to Patric. He's been a good friend to a lot of people here, a good deputy, and this place is hurtin' because of what he's done. " The sheriff says Huston's career as an officer is likely over.
