[MI] Honored Taylor police officer Cpl. Matthew Edwards was fatally shot in line of duty July 23rd - while responding to a possible breaking and entering related to a domestic dispute. On behalf of the entire city, Mayor Jeffrey Lamarand extends his sympathy to Cpl. Edwards' family and to all officers and personnel in the Taylor Police Department. Flags have been lowered to half staff. Officers are wearing black bands around their badges. [LINK]
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph in Taylor. On Thursday, Edwards will lie in repose at Beacon Baptist Church, 21721 Northline in Taylor; the funeral is scheduled to start at noon. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock.
Edwards leaves a wife and two children.
Mayor Lamarand said the public may make donations at any PNC Bank branch to the Cpl. Matthew Edwards Memorial Fund.
Police Officer Involved Domestic Violence. Lighting a candle of remembrance for those who've lost their lives to domestic violence behind the blue wall, for strength and wisdom to those still there, and a non-ending prayer for those who thought they had escaped but can't stop being afraid.
