This just in from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office: Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that Heather Kulzy, 27, of Nutley has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after running her husband down last night [12/12] at approximately 9:30 p.m. when the two got into an argument outside their home. Mrs. Kulzy was also charged with two weapons offenses. In this case, the weapon was the family car – a Kia. Her husband, Anthony Kulzy, 31, also of Nutley, was rushed to University Hospital in Newark where he was originally believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries. However, he released from the hospital today. Mrs. Kulzy was also taken to University Hospital, where she remains under police guard. She sustained minor lacerations. Kulzy resigned from the Nutley Police Department about two weeks ago. The incident is being investigated by the Nutley Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Frank Costanza saw his best friend thrown over a row of trees onto his neighbor’s walkway and knocked unconscious. “I thought he was dead. I was freaking out, I didn’t know what to do... Witnesses said Heather Kulzy got behind the wheel of the Kia automobile, backed up into her neighbor’s driveway across the street and before hitting the gas yelled ‘I’m going to kill you’... A man, who recently resigned from the Nutley Police Department, was run down by his wife with her car Sunday night... Heather Kulzy, 27, of Nutley, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, and two weapons offenses... The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. on Nutley Avenue, at the home shared with her husband, Anthony Kulzy, 31, and three children, ages 4, 6 and less than 1-year-old. Godfather to the couple's daughter and close friend Frankie Costanza, who said he was in the lawn during the incident... "As she was driving up I heard her say, 'I'm gonna kill him,' and I yelled, 'Ant move,'" Costanza said. He said Heather Kulzy accelerated the car, sending the Kia towards Anthony and crashing into another truck and motorcycle parked in the driveway. The victim was hit and sent airborne into the side of a neighbor's house... "At first, I thought he was dead," Costanza said. The victim remained unconscious for nearly 10 minutes, as [Costanza] attempted CPR to revive him and neighbors brought blankets to keep him warm until EMS arrived. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he was believed to have life-threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital on Monday and is recovering at home... The children were home at the time but were brought to a neighbor's quickly as not to witness the turmoil, Costanza added...
