[PA] Luzerne County Deputy Sheriff Jennifer Roberts is back in the news for domestic-related violence

PREVIOUS POST:

I hope there is an intervention - not to save Deputy Roberts' job, but her life, and possibly the life of others. I've excluded the details of the most recent incident in the excerpts below, but the link to the articles are there. I have an opinion but it would throw gas on a fire so I will keep it to myself. Enough is evident without commentary.

[Excerpts] Criminal charges were filed against a county sheriff deputy Friday, after police said she harassed and assaulted the girlfriend of her former partner. Jennifer M. Roberts, 33, was charged by Wilkes-Barre police with harassment, simple assault and burglary stemming from a July 22 incident. She was arraigned by District Justice James Tupper and released on $5,000 bail and the conditions that she refrain from using alcohol or drugs and has no contact with the victim. Her attorney Allyson Kacmarski said Roberts would fight the charges to the fullest extent at the preliminary hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. on Aug. 11. “Right now only one side of the story is being portrayed,” said Kacmarski. When contacted about the charges, Sheriff John Gilligan said he had no comment. Sources say Roberts was suspended as a result of the charges. Roberts had previously been suspended from her position in the county sheriff’s department after a domestic dispute with another sheriff deputy, her former partner, Mary Jean Farrell. Roberts allegedly told Far... Roberts and Farrell, in February, filed reciprocal protection-from-abuse orders against each other, alleging guns were drawn and physical abuse occurred when their intimate relationship ended. A week later on March 3, the women withdrew the PFAs against each other, with an attorney saying the two wanted to move on with their lives. [Full article here]

[Excerpts] Luzerne County Deputy Sheriff Jennifer M. Roberts is facing criminal charges she assaulted the new girlfriend of her former companion, Deputy Sheriff Mary Jean Farrell. Sheriff John Gilligan said Friday he indefinitely suspended Roberts pending the outcome of an internal investigation. He suspended Roberts in February after she and Farrell filed protection-from-abuse petitions against each other. "It's a sad day in the sheriff's office," Gilligan said, adding Roberts turned in her weapons Friday... Gilligan ended Roberts' earlier suspension after Roberts and Farrell agreed to withdraw the protection-from-abuse petitions on March 3. Farrell and Roberts were living together in Fairview Township with Farrell's children, 13 and 11, and broke up as a couple in February when Roberts became involved with another woman, court filings said. Both women alleged murder threats and gun-pointing incidents in their petitions. Farrell was not suspended in February because she was not working and was recovering from an on-duty injury. Gilligan said Farrell is still not working... Farrell has been receiving disability pay, known as "heart and lung" pay, since October, records show. State law requires "heart and lung" pay for police, fire and sheriff's office workers injured on the job, and injured employees entitled to "heart and lung" pay get unlimited time to recuperate and receive full pay...
