Garland police have identified the man and woman involved in an apparent murder attempt and suicide Sunday night in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at North Garland Avenue and the Bush Turnpike.

Officer Joe Harn said Damon Raynall Porch, 29, was found dead in a car at the scene with a head wound and a pistol lying on his chest.

His wife, 28-year-old Shyrica Monique Porch, lay on the ground outside the car. She had also been shot in the head. She was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where she was serious condition Monday morning.

Garland police investigators were able to interview Ms. Porch at Parkland Hospital Monday, and she confirmed that her husband shot her. She said they had been having an argument, but gave no details about why they were arguing.

Ms. Porch remains in the hospital in serious and stable condition.

A woman whose husband apparently shot her in the head before killing himself Sunday night outside a Garland Wal-Mart was identified Monday as a jailer at the Decker Detention Facility in Dallas. Shyrica Monique Woods Porch, 28, is also a former New Orleans resident who came to Dallas after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Dallas County Sheriff's Department said.
