A Purcell police officer has been suspended with pay after he was charged with domestic abuse. Sgt. David Leon Adams, 41, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of domestic abuse Thursday in Cleveland County District Court. Adams is accused of hitting his 16-year-old stepson in the face during an argument Jan. 1 in his Lexington home, according to papers filed with the charges. Adams turned himself in and was released on his own recognizance. His next court appearance is scheduled at 10 a.m. Feb. 13. Adams has been with the Purcell Police Department nine years, police Chief Kevin Williams said. An internal investigation is being conducted, he said.
