Madison County sheriff's deputy Mark McCarty resigned from his post Monday after he was arrested and charged with battery and false imprisonment, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office. McCarty was arrested by Barrow County sheriff's deputies July 26 in response to a domestic violence complaint. He was released Monday on $4,000 bond, according to deputies at the Barrow County Detention Center. McCarty had served as a road deputy with the Madison County Sheriff's Office since November, when he returned after working with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. Before leaving for the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, McCarty had served with the Madison County Sheriff's Office for several years as a lieutenant, said Capt. Michael Benner, with the Madison County Sheriff's Office. Benner had no comment on McCarty's legal situation, except to say that it had caused McCarty to resign from his post. "He resigned in light of what has taken place, his legal situation," Benner said.

  1. Thank God one rotten apple has been taken out of circulation and all his access to authority. I have been stalked by an ex-cop for years and no one will help. Keep up the good work and God help all the victims.

These charges were a false allegation and he has been re certified. Mark is a good man who has served our country and works hard everyday. Mark helps all he can and wouldn't harm a flea nor has he ever hit a woman!

Almost all cops who do domestic violence get their jobs back and get recertified if the penalties ever get that far.

I've known Mark McCarty for approximately 30 years - personal life as well as professional - I can promise this is BS! He is one of the nicest people I have ever known & would do anything to help anyone!

You're at least 30 years old and believe that people who are nice publicly cannot be involved in domestic violence behind closed doors?
