DELAWARE, Ohio — A Columbus Police officer remained behind bars Tuesday, charged with domestic violence, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported. Officer Richard Evans, a 17-year member of the Columbus Division of Police, was relieved of his duties several weeks ago, after his ex-wife filed a civil protection order against him. On Monday night, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Evans on charges including violation of a protection order, menacing by stalking and domestic violence. Evans' ex-wife is also a police officer, Landers reported. If Evans is convicted of domestic violence, he could lose his badge. He was being held in the Delaware County Jail. [LINK]

A Columbus police officer who was arrested last month on domestic-violence charges involving his ex-wife is back in jail after breaking into an ex-girlfriend's house in Plain City, police there say.

Richard L. Evans, 41, of 250 East St. in Sunbury is now charged with burglary.

Plain City police said Evans' 37-year-old ex-girlfriend, Dana S. Hess, called them Tuesday night to say that he had broken into her home while she was away and was hiding in her bedroom when she returned.

Police said Evans had figured out her garage-door code to get in. Evans did not have a weapon, and Hess, also a Columbus police officer, wasn't hurt, according to a police report.

Evans was gone when police arrived, but he was arrested on Wednesday.

Sgt. Rich Weiner, a Columbus Police Division spokesman, said Evans has been using personal time since the charges were filed in Delaware County and has not returned to work.

He was charged Jan. 11 with aggravated menacing, menacing by stalking, domestic violence and two counts of violating a protection order following a confrontation with his ex-wife, Delaware deputies said.

A judge ordered the 17-year Police Division veteran to wear a GPS monitor, not have any weapons and stay away from his ex-wife, Laura L. Evans, who also is a Columbus police officer.

Richard Evans was held for several days in the Delaware County jail until he posted $15,000 - 10 percent of a $150,000 bond - on Jan. 27 and was released, records show.

Because of the new charge, the prosecutor in Delaware County took steps on Thursday to revoke his bail, court records show. He remained jailed yesterday in the Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg.

The police internal affairs bureau will investigate both incidents after the criminal cases are resolved, Weiner said.

This man has recently put his daughter's health in danger by refusing to deal with her juvenile diabetes treatments. He didn't do her treatment 6 times in the past 3 weeks. He says he wasn't trained, yet he refused to go to the classes to be trained and he has all the information and books to learn this easy task on his own. and he refused learn on his own also. Yet he still gets shared custody and has her 3 1/2 days a week. You say what judge would allow this? What judge would order that this child be returned to his home where she won't get treatment. The child is Down Syndrome and can not do this on her own. What Judge??????

  3. It doesn't suprise me in the least. You have to care more about anyone but yourself. I feel so sorry for his poor children. They are the true victims.
