[Excerpts] NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- There are questions surrounding the death of a Metro officer's wife. At first, police were told it was a suicide case, but now they aren't sure. "That will always be my baby," said Charlotte Barbour, Shari Cartmell's mother... The family of 24-year-old Shari Cartmell said it's devastating to hear at first her death was believed to be a suicide. "I just want the truth to come out. I don't want my child swept under the rug," said Barbour. Metro police said at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, they got a call from Shari Cartmell's husband, Metro Officer Deon Cartmell. He was off duty at the time and told police dispatchers his wife shot herself inside their east Nashville home. "It would have never even came in my mind that my sister committed suicide. We didn't even think like that," said Antoya Brandon, her sister. Police have not ruled the shooting a suicide. They haven't ruled it a homicide or an accident, either. The case is still open, and nothing has been ruled out... "I see it every day at work. My sister was not suicidal," said Brandon. "We had plans for Saturday. I was at work, and she called me and told me we needed to go walking on Saturday because we were going to be in a wedding this weekend." Kristen Mumford of Metro police said police reports show Deon Cartmell was the only other person in the home during the shooting.... [Full article here]
