  1. I am in complete support of the true victims of domestic violence, but the public is quick to judge even those who are innocent and take a woman's word of the occurrence of DV even when it in unfounded and then continue the abuse of the real victim (in this case, former Chief Dahlquist) by publishing stories like these without any basis other than the word of a controlling wife who herself used a claim of DV as a tool to try to punish her husband for deciding to divorce her. Think twice before believing this story.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Did she beat herself up?

  3. If you check the records, SHE filed after the DV occurred. Punishing HIM for filing for divorce? Don't think so. Are all of you idiots? That guy weighs more than twice what she does - and he is mean. I know him. I don't know why she stayed with him unless she was scared to do anything else. I think this is textbook abuse - and anonymous should think twice about the facts. SHE was not who called the police. The Doctor did. Good for the Doctor! Probably saved her life...

  4. What sounds more believable? A 6'3" 230lb. man lays down on his back so he can kick his wife in the knees. Or he is trying to back away from a out of control wife, trips, falls back on his back.Wife jumps on top and begins swinging on him. He pushes her off to get away.

  5. I have identified your 2nd post to be just plain slander of the alleged victim and choose not to post it.

I hope she has support through this.

  6. Check the newspapers this morning. This abusive jerk plead GUILTY on Friday. He plead to a lesser charge when he found out that he was other-wise going to trial on Monday and would have been found guilty of full blown spousal abuse and tossed in jail.

Just wait until the rest of the story comes out in the divorce trial. The adultery on the part of the husband, thousands of $$ on drugs he purchased in many different names on the internet and so on will all come out into the open, showing what a animal he really was. Yes I know the family and cannot believe that she finally escaped the years of violence. Truthfully we all were worried that he was going to kill her.

  7. Once again poeple read the newspaper and think they are judge and jury. Try doing some research other than the newspaper before posting.

  9. My question is if you WERE worried that he'd kill her why aren't you still worried?

  10. "We" are the friends and family of the wife and kids. We certainly DO know the family. If YOU are Rob who is posting this, then you might say that we do not know you but then we are not missing anything.

As for the last question, we are still concerned about her safety, but after pleading guilty once, if she then shows up hurt or worse, then there is not much doubt as to where it came from. Either the ex-husband or some of his buddies from work would be the first place to focus.

  11. "..or worse"?

    You're all in my prayers.

  12. The medical testimony about what he did to her is a public record that anyone can read. He pled GUILTY. If she decided not to testify, I don't blame her. She maybe weighs 120 pounds, and he broke through a locked door to hurt her. PLED GUILTY. I would be afraid too. Maybe she is really concerned about her children. God Bless her. To the idiot who thinks she jumped him after HE came after HER, where are HIS bruises?? SERIOUSLY? I hope someone is making sure she stays safe. She is a brave, sweet, strong soul.

  17. I am all for protecting true victims of DV.
But...was she really that "incredibly brave" or angry and desperate to hold on to what she was obviously going to loose? Maybe both are victims? I am deeply sorry for both of them and for the serious pain they have caused their children. God Bless!

The World Herald article from last week speaks volumes about this case. Sounds like they really had some problems and maybe they argued allot, but I don't believe he could ever beat her, especially in the way she described. He's probably not that easy to live with, but he is not the kind of guy that beats his wife. It was time to split, she was probably bitter and so it goes. I don't think there was enough evidence for DV conviction. If there had been, I think she would have gone for a conviction. The plea deal was for "disturbing the peace" not DV. Note that the fine was less than half of the max amount.

    Omaha World Herald
...Special prosecutor Tricia Freeman, chief deputy Sarpy County attorney, dropped a more serious domestic violence charge against Dahlquist in the incident involving his wife, Pamela Dahlquist, a former deputy Douglas County attorney.

The plea deal occurred as Robert Dahlquist was set to go to trial next week in Douglas County Court. If he had been convicted of the misdemeanor domestic-violence assault charge, he could have faced up to one year in jail or two years of probation.

Freeman told the judge she would not object to Dahlquist being punished with a fine for disturbing the peace.

“It was a just result,” Freeman said outside the courtroom.

Asked whether Pamela Dahlquist had been willing to testify, Freeman said: “I'm not going to get into it. That's my prerogative, and I'm always going to protect the victim.”

Pamela Dahlquist reported that her husband got down on the floor, on his back, and kicked her in the knees with both feet on March 11.

She said she fell to the floor, injuring her hip, neck, back and shoulder. He then grabbed her by the wrists and pulled her off the floor, she said.

She said he called her by a number of expletives. Still in pain two days later, she said, she went to an urgent care facility where doctors noticed other bruises and called police.

Freeman had made a motion to allow prosecutors to call medical staff to testify to what Pamela Dahlquist told them that night. Sarpy County Judge Robert Wester had agreed to allow that testimony.

Asked whether she had considered moving forward with the doctor's and nurse's testimony, Freeman said she had to weigh whether that would lead to a conviction.

“You always have to consider, ‘What is the strength of the evidence?'” Freeman said. “‘How would a jury perceive that evidence?'”

After Wester imposed the $200 fine, Dahlquist walked briskly across the rotunda of the Douglas County Courthouse. With his attorney at his side, he paid the fine. He then slipped on sunglasses, walked back across the rotunda and down a first-floor hallway.

Dahlquist's attorney, Mike Fabian, called the fine “an appropriate resolution.” He had told Wester that his client's only record was as an “exemplary public servant.”

“I'm going to leave the facts alone,” Fabian said, “and let this family begin to heal.”

In general, Freeman said, prosecutors run into difficulties when women “stand to lose a lot” by continuing to press a case.

“She risked everything to come forward (initially),” Freeman said. “She's incredibly strong, incredibly brave.”

Excuse me? Suppose that you do not feel that he is the type of guy who buys thousands of perscription drugs on the internet under various names (wife, kids, mother in law and so on) instead of going the legal route? There is proof of this in black and white.

How about the $500k to $750k in funds and real estate that he stole from their joint accounts? How about the forging of his wife's signature on various documents while stealing this?

Rob sure has YOU snowed about what he could and has done to his wife and family. Wait until the civil trial comes out then you will see the proof out in the open about him.

  20. Mike Fabian represents murderers on a regular basis. You don't think that denense was expensive??? Fabian would not have advised him to plead guilty to jaywalking the day before trial unless he saw a conviction coming. I have heard him put her down, call her horrific names, and do walk off and leave her places with no etc. He is no Prince like Anon. makes him sound. I don't think she had any idea about his other "marriage ending" activities. He plead guilty to DV Disturbing the Peace - admitting he broke through a locked door behind which she had taken refuge. He can kiss his Glock goodbye forever. Does that sound like an innocent man? Whatever her reasons for not testifying - whether the children (reason enough) he pled GUILTY. Not no contest or something else. God bless her and her kids. They deserve a better life.

  22. To person who tried to comment today.
Sometimes I have to decide what cant be posted. I have decided that your post could endanger members of the family if it is true, and is not fair if it's not true. I suggest that you do what you suggested that others do - wait for the court to decide.

Where children are involved you cannot be careless with words. If you feel he is dangerous why would you try to enflame him here, anonymously?

    ReplyDelete
  23. First off, they are hardly kids. Youngest is 19 I believe and the oldest is well in his 20's. They have lived in the house with the Mother being abused by their Father for many years, this is nothing new for them.

Second you could have posted the rest of my post after deleting the part about why the kids are with him, lets be open and honest if possible.

Lastly if you are concerned about words and kids (and these are not kids but young adults) then you should have been in court where their Father pled guilty and heard the comments there in front of the kids. There was nothing in my post that was anywhere near as difficult as what was said there.

Signed a friend of the family...

  24. You did not address your words possibly causing danger to others. Your agenda is different than genuine care of the innocent parties involved.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sorry but there are really no innocent parties here. Everyone is in a small way guilty. Rob should not have done this, Pam should have left the marriage years ago and the kids should have gone to their school councilor or other responsible party and said "we have a problem at home that we cannot live with" a long time ago, so just who is innocent here? The dog is about the only totally innocent party here.

Causing danger to others? Well the kids are in Robs back pocket due to the massive amounts of $$ he is spending on buying their love. Then there is Rob refusing to give up his Glock pistol that the court ordered returned now that he cannot legally possess a weapon. This alone makes his future ex-wife concerned about her safety, and am sure that this is being done by him on purpose. When are the police or DA going to demand the return of the pistol? Or is he going to have to get busted as an illegal possessor and then get tossed into jail?

    A friend of the family...

  26. You call yourself a friend of the family? A friend would take the time and make the effort to understand dv before they publicly blame an abused woman and even CHILDREN. There are so many reasons to not flee or report abuse but you speak as if you have their lives all figured out. Learn how to ask questions and learn more about what your "friends" have been going through. May God shield the frightened from your uninformed arrogance.

    ReplyDelete
  27. God shields me everyday, and especially from people like you.

Sad that you do not know them and say that she should have stayed. It took a doctor in the ER to contact the police to get this out in the open. I never blamed her or the CHILDREN.

You might seek professional help before acting like you know everything about this case, especially so much that has not come out yet.

    A friend of the family...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I didn't and wouldn't say she should stay. I said if you did some learning you wouldn't blame her for staying.

This isn't about you and I have no reason to go back and forth with you. Thanks for your opinion. It's posted.

    ReplyDelete
  29. For the love of God--why do you think the wives of police and fire DO NOT report DV. There husbands are in a position where getting any type of a guilty plea is an enigma. Furthermore, with long term verbal and physical abuse, the victims are frankly in denial about what they are capable of fixing. I knew Pam very well, and had no idea what she was going through. I DID know that she would have tried anything or endured anything for the sake of her family. The kids knew it wasn't a normal marriage...maybe she should have left, but what if she was in love with her husband and children and truly believed she could make Rob want to be a better man?
Everyone in that family was frightened of him, and of disappointing him. He abused his power and abused his wife for years. If this wasn't such an incredibly critical problem, walls like this one would not be necessary.
As for Rob attempting to alienate the children from their mother, that is not only controlling, classic, but abusive in and of itself. To trash their mother and attempt to create a chasm between them is not a loving father. It is another classic symptom of an abuser, and I pray each day for her and the kids.

If you are truly interested in understanding why victims don't testify, what happens in these relationships try reading something authoritative on the subject such as "A Typology of Domestic Violence" by Michael Johnson, Northeastern Univ. Press. There are a number of references to very long term studies regarding domestic terrorism.
6 to 10 million women experience violence from their male partners each year.

40 - 45% of women presenting to emergency rooms are there for domestic related injuries.

More than 6,000 women were murdered ( several years old) by their boyfriends or husbands.

Sadly, these statistics are 65% higher in police and fire families than in the general population.

Saying what Pam should or should not have done is irrelevant. The past is that. She can't now leave 10 years ago. Saying that Rob is not the kind of guy who would hurt his wife is akin to saying Frogs can't jump. You were not there. I wasn't either. But I do know that Pam affectionally referred to him as "Fiteman Bob", never said a bad word about him, but knew she was troubled with the marriage. He would call work 10 times day just to see if she was there. She was constantly letting him know if she was stepping out of the office, and would become very anxious and panicky if he had made a demand for her to get home.
While wordy -- I believe it is imperative that we all stop trying to decide innocence or what someone else would have done in that position -- and begin to embrace and understand the devastating consequences of very real behavior, that is destroying and killing more police and fire families than any other.

Get a grip. Let's accept the problem and deal with it.

  30. With a "family friend" like him who needs family enemies. :)

  35. City of Omaha Has Its First Six-Figure Pension
    January 16, 2008
    By Karen Sloan
    Omaha World-Herald, Neb.
The six-figure city pension is no longer a fantasy, it’s reality. Former Omaha Fire Chief Robert Dahlquist will receive an annual pension of $107,076 — the largest in the city’s history. “It’s the highest one that we have found,” said Finance Director Carol Ebdon . . . As the head of the Omaha Fire Department, Dahlquist earned a base salary of $125,097. His pension is based upon his highest 12 months of wages, which were nearly $142,800 . . . Dahlquist, 49, also cashed in about $4,700 of unused vacation, as well as $3,900 of other comp time . . . Dahlquist, like others who retire, will receive his pension until his death. For example, after 20 years, at age 69, Dahlquist would have received more than $2.1 million from his city pension. /. . .

A former Omaha fire chief accused of domestic assault has been ordered not to have any contact with his wife. Robert Dahlquist was in court Thursday morning for his bond review. Bond was reduced from $50,000 to $10,000. Dahlquist's attorney also asked the judge to review any warrant that's issued for his client. The attorney told the judge he's concerned Pamela Dahlquist will try to set up his client to violate the no-contact order.

A former attorney with Douglas County appeared in court Wednesday, but she's the one facing prosecution.
Pamela Dahlquist, 55, pleaded not guilty to felony theft by shoplifting.
Prosecutors said Dahlquist stole clothes and jewelry from Kohl's last week. It's not Dahlquist's first run-in with the law, either.
Dahlquist was convicted of two shoplifting charges in April.
Because she is a former Douglas County deputy attorney, the city prosecutor's office is handling the case.

  41. I really wish some news outlet in Omaha would actually report on this story! Pam is divorced now but is continually harassed by her ex. He has even enlisted the help of local police to harass her. He seems to have made it his business to ruin her life in every way and to make sure she never sees any of the money from their joint marital assets. He is abusing his power in town still and Pam has no ally, no recourse, little hope for justice or even fairness. I worry about her constantly and wish there were someone in authority in town willing to take her ex on and do everything possible to get her some peace.

Sad to see and yes the posters above are correct, she should have left the marriage years ago, but does that give Rob the right to do what he did? He will get to plead his case to God and guessing that he will not like the outcome...

Pam Dahlquist has had multiple shoplifting arrests in less than a year. Police said she shoplifted at Westroads Mall this week after she bonded out of jail on a separate charge days before.

Police said the 55-year-old tried to steal $500 worth of clothes at Von Maur on Monday.

According to court records, she was arrested in December when she was caught stealing $521 worth of clothes and tote bags at Canfield’s Sporting Goods near 84th and Center streets.

On Oct. 15, Dahlquist pleaded not guilty to another felony arrest at Kohl’s. She was also convicted on two other shoplifting charges in April.

Dahlquist has been arrested six times with five charges.

Douglas County mental health expert Jeri Schaben said research shows most shoplifters do what they do out of addiction.

For the last two years, Schaben has been trying to help people like Dahlquist. She runs Douglas County’s compulsive shoplifters anonymous meetings.

“This is a support group where people can come and talk about how they would like to quit shoplifting and just learning more about themselves and the reasons why they shoplift,” Schaben said.

Schaben said in order for the program to work, the person needs to want to quit. He said for each time someone is caught, they could have shoplifted 30 to 40 times.

“I believe that one arrest is enough to know that there's a problem,” Schaben said.

The group meets every Thursday at Alegent Creighton Health Bergan Mercy from 6-7 p.m.
