A former Dellroy police officer who resides in Lawrence Township will spend four years in prison for abusing his girlfriend’s children with a stun gun. Kevin McCann, 48, of 10188 Radmoor St. NW, was sentenced Wednesday in Stark County Common Pleas Court. McCann’s girlfriend, Christina Robinson, 22, of the same address, will serve a three-year prison term for her role in the abuse of her children. “You violated one of the most sacred obligations of a parent, protecting one’s child, clearly by allowing this to take place,” Judge John Haas told Robinson. McCann, who served in a part-time capacity with the Dellroy department, previously pleaded guilty to two counts each of felonious assault and felony child endangering. Robinson pleaded guilty to four counts of felony child endangering. The two were indicted last December. State officials have said McCann’s felony conviction will preclude him from maintaining his Ohio peace officer certification. McCann used a stun gun to abuse the three victims — all under the age of 3, according to court records. The children also were abused with a switch and a board. [LINK]

I worked with Kevin, and I never saw this side of him involving harm to children. He always spoke of his love for his daughter, and I know how devoted he was to her. His face lit up whenever he would speak of her. I know he was a stern officer, and demanded respect, but as far as a child abuser, I find it hard to believe. I never saw it coming. Hopefully something good will come of this. Good luck Kevin. Debbie
