Officer Maxwell, who was recently laid to rest, was described as a vibrant young officer with the Murfreesboro Police Department. Officer Maxwell was stationed at the Franklin Heights Housing Complex where she served the community as a COPS officer. Inspired by a young child who lived in the community, Brittany started The Christmas Tree Project. This project was intended to collect artificial trees for those children and families who otherwise will not have a tree. Maxwell was said to be passionate about The Christmas Tree Project and was working on a goal of collecting at least 30 trees. Unfortunately, Brittany passed away before this project was completed. Her family and friends, have decided to complete this project in her memory and plan to continue the project for many years to come. In her memory, the family has re-named the project “The Brittany Project” . They are requesting donations of pre-lit, new or gently used, Christmas Trees. The are also asking for donations of regular Christmas Trees and Christmas lights for a tree. The group behind the project is also accepting ornaments, tree toppers, or any other essential "trim the tree" items. Trees and decorations can be dropped off at Bud’s Tire on 3600 East Main St. Monetary Donations can also made at any Middle Tennessee branch of First Tennessee Bank in the name of the Brittany Project. BRENDA ROSS (GREZ) ON NOVEMBER 17TH:
I am Britt’s grandmother and you will never know what this means to me and our family. She was our first grandchild, so full of energy and life. She had called me a few days before her death and ask if I could get my friends and family to help with this project. She would be so grateful and this has gone beyond her wildest dreams! May God bless each you for all your hard work to make her dream come true.

...How sad if turns out this young woman, who had so much to live for and so much to look forward to was so utterly despondent she took her own life.
...you know maybe they should just go on and say cause alot of people pretty much know that she didn't kill herself and its time for tbi to start askin people questions. officer maxwell would not have killed herself. many single moms and children looked up to her in this community. she had to many goals and it just doesnt make sense. she helped us out alot and people are gettin aggravated that the tbi isnt sayin anything. but honestly everyone that knew her and knew of her knows she didnt commit suicide... rip officer maxwell we miss you soooooo much!

Hello:
By now I am sure you have heard about Murfreesboro TN PD loosing one of officers on Oct 23rd. Officer Brittany Maxwell passed away on 10/23/10 unexpectedly at her home. She had started a project to collect artificial Christmas Trees (pre-lited or not, new or gently used) to give to the families in franklin heights and other neighborhoods that will not otherwise have a Christmas tree. Most of the kids that she had on her list have never had a Christmas Tree before. She passed away before her goal could be finished. We, her family and friends, have decided to finish this project in her memory this year and in the years going forward to continue and make it something bigger than Brittany ever dreamed it could be. Kimberly Maxwell, Brittany's mom, and I have the paperwork in process to estiblish a 501(c)3 in Brittany's honor. It's called "The Brittany Project" in memory of her. Kim is the official chairman and I am her Co-Chair. I guess what I am asking is... Would you be willing to help us with a tree donation or a monetary donation to assist us with future projects. We aren't doing this to seek fame and fortune. We are doing this to honor the memory of Officer Maxwell and to keep her dream of making this a better community. Any help you could offer would be more than appericated. ... Thanks for taking the time to read this Jennifer Smith donations can be sent to MPD c/o Jennifer Smith 302 S Church St Murfreesboro TN 37130 or call me at 615-653-8664

What really happened? MPD and the TBI are being tight lipped but there are rumors of suicide and a murder cover-up. She was a caring and compassionate officer and the truth needs to be known

You all are a joke. Sadly Brittany shot and killed herself. She was pregnant by a married mpd officer. Obviously the family or the mpd does not want that info blasted in the news.

I don't know Brittany, nor do I know what happened. However, I got really interested in this case when I saw her on the news. Just a couple days prior to Brittany's death, my girlfriend and I saw her in a walk-in clinic in Murfreesboro. Since my girlfriend was there on workers' comp, our visit took long enough to see Brittany come in (in uniform), go back, get treated, and come out with a taped forearm. She was clearly on duty at the time. Perhaps the two events had no correlation, but I thought it was really odd.

Brittany was very confident in herself and her work. She had problems as we all do but loved herself and family enough to not disrespect them in this manner. Minus the male friend, she had it all going for her. Her coworkers were there for her and she was spiritual enough to not take the cowardly way out. I pray she rests in peace and eventually we get answers.

Truth Be Told is correct. Let this poor girl rest in peace. There was never any doubt that it was a suicide. There's a reason a welfare check was done, people. She had just been named one of the city's most beautiful people in a local publication, she was in love with the officer, he didn't respond positively (to say the least) and she killed herself. It is tragic but true. He did not go kill her. She came home from a night out, distraught, and blew her head off. A very thorough investigation was done, led by a detective that worked very closely to her. He absolutely worked hard to make sure the case was handled properly and said there was never even remotely any question as to what happened. You can interpret that however you want but the scene made it extremely obvious as to what happened.
You need to learn a little bit more about how this often turns out. Life isn't always that simple.
