[Excerpts] The officer in charge of the city Police Department’s patrol division is facing criminal charges after firing a gun during an off-duty incident last weekend. Police will charge Lt. Scott Denniss with felonious assault and misdemeanors of improperly discharging a firearm and domestic violence. He has been hospitalized since the incident... It appears that before officers arrived, Denniss and his wife were outside the house and Denniss fired two shots toward the ground. His wife went inside. When the officers arrived, they ordered Denniss to put down his weapon. Officers said Denniss fired two more shots toward the ground before putting the weapon down. At that point he was apprehended, then taken to the hospital... Since the incident, Denniss has been on administrative leave. Wilder expects he will be served with the criminal charges early next week and taken to the Stark County Jail. Denniss, 46, began working with the North Canton police in 1989... [Full article here]
