A Santa Clara County jury convicted a former Menlo Park firefighter this week for plotting to kill his wife and dump her body in a Nevada desert. James Guasch, 52, was sentenced Monday to 12 years and four months in prison after a jury found him guilty of solicitation of murder and possession of pharmaceutical drugs for sale... Guasch devised a plan and hired undercover agents from the Santa Clara County Enforcement Team to kill his wife and "dump her body into a mine shaft in the Nevada desert"... Guasch was introduced to the agents through a confidential informant and gave them a bottle of Oxycodone - a prescription pain medicine that the National Institutes of Health's Web site says can be addictive - as a retainer fee.... In the divorce proceedings that ended last October, Charles Morrone, the attorney representing Guasch's wife Charlene, said she filed a domestic violence restraining order against Guasch months before the solicitation-of-murder charges surfaced, because he had been exhibiting "threatening behavior"...
