[NJ] Moorestown Police Officer Robert Melia

...New Jersey still has no explicit ban on the sexual penetration of animals, which is why the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office charged [Moorestown police officer Robert] Melia with animal cruelty... He and former girlfriend, Heather Lewis, of Pemberton Township, are also accused of sexually assaulting three young girls over a five-year period, sometimes in Melia's Cottage Avenue home in Moorestown...

(I do not put sex offending officers on this blog unless some part of it has to do with a family-like trust or relationship.)

JUDGE DISMISSES ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES AGAINST POLICE OFFICER ROBERT MELIA FOR SEX WITH COWS

[EXCERPTS] Perhaps the Garden State should switch its nickname to the Barnyard State. A New Jersey judge has dismissed animal cruelty charges against a cop accused of committing a sex act with young cows, saying a grand jury had no way of knowing whether the animals were "tormented." Moorestown police officer Robert Melia, who is currently suspended, allegedly engaged in oral sex acts with five calves in Southampton in 2006. Since New Jersey currently has no law explicitly banning such an act, prosecutors in Burlington county brought animal cruelty charges against Melia, the Philadelphia Daily News reports... The dismissal reportedly irked the prosecution. "I think any reasonable juror could infer that a man's penis in the mouth of a calf is torment," a Burlington County assistant prosecutor, Kevin Morgan, said... The judge's dismissal does not mark the end of Melia's legal woes. He, along with girlfriend Heather Lewis, was arrested in April 2008 for sexually assaulting three girls over a five-year-period. Authorities investigating those charges reportedly uncovered videos on his computer of a girl being "subjected to sexual activity" in addition to taped encounters between Melia and the calves. ANIMAL-CRUELTY CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST BURLINGTON COUNTY COP

[EXCERPTS] If animals could talk, a few cows in Burlington County might ask state legislators to hurry up and outlaw bestiality. During a bizarre hearing there yesterday, a Superior Court judge dismissed animal-cruelty charges against a Moorestown police officer accused of sticking his penis into the mouths of five calves in rural Southampton in 2006, claiming a grand jury couldn't infer whether the cows had been "tormented" or "puzzled" by the situation or even irritated that they'd been duped out of a meal... Children, [Judge James] Morley said, seemed "comforted" when given pacifiers, but there's no way to know what bovine minds thought... Burlington County Assistant County Prosecutor Kevin Morgan was certainly irritated by the ruling, claiming the grand jury didn't see the videos of the alleged incident, including one in which one hungry calf allegedly head-butts Melia in the stomach... New Jersey still has no explicit ban on the sexual penetration of animals, which is why the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office charged Melia with animal cruelty... Sex with cows is the least of Melia's problems, though. He and former girlfriend, Heather Lewis, of Pemberton Township, are also accused of sexually assaulting three young girls over a five-year period, sometimes in Melia's Cottage Avenue home in Moorestown, where he was a patrolman, authorities said... During the course of the investigation, authorities also discovered child pornography on Melia's home computer as well as videos of him with the cows... [Full article here]

[EXCERPTS] A Moorestown police officer who was charged earlier this month with sexually assaulting three girls faces new allegations that he performed lewd acts on animals. 1. This guy is still running free in town. And now there's somebody trying to lure kids into a van... Go figure. And now theres no more police dispatchers, so his girlfriend (JP) has no job. I'm wondering if this is a "lesson" to Moorestown residents for eliminating his girlfriend's position as a dispatcher for the Moorestown Police Department ?????

A Burlington County Superior Court Judge could find comments he made at trial factoring into his reappointment next year. Judge James J. Morley is up for reappointment in 2010, but New Jersey State Bar Association President Allen Etish said that his recent comments -- at the sentencing of a 45-year-old teacher's aide for having sex with a 16-year-old student and before dismissing animal cruelty charges against a former police officer for allegedly performing sex acts with calves -- may come up when Morley comes up for review by the Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee (JPAC), which Etish sits on. "When we consider a tenure application for JPAC, issues with morality, controversy and inappropriate comments are all parts of the process," said Etish. During the sentencing on Monday of the teacher's aide, Donna Goebel, Morley said "But for the defendant's status, there would be no crime here (because) the relationship was entirely consensual," according to the Courier-Post. He also noted that "It's possible she just wanted to be around someone who was nice to her and got caught up in something she shouldn't have"... [Full article here]

JUDGE WEIGHS WHETHER COWS ENJOYED ’SUCKLING’ COP’S MEMBER

[Excerpts] A Pennsylvania judge pondered a very unusual question during a ruling issued Monday: When a former police officer stuck his male member in the mouths of five baby cows, did they enjoy "suckling" it, or were they merely "puzzled"?... claiming a grand jury couldn't infer whether the cows had been 'tormented' or 'puzzled' by the situation or even irritated that they'd been duped out of a meal," reported Jason Nark with the Philadelphia Daily News. Weighing the case, Judge James J. Morley reportedly asked: "If the cow had the cognitive ability to form thought and speak, would it say, 'Where's the milk? I'm not getting any milk'?" Equating the act of putting a penis in the mouth of a cow with a human baby suckling on a pacifier, the judge reportedly added: "They [children] enjoy the act of suckling. Cows may be of a different disposition"... [Full article here]

I was in the jury pool for the trial going on now(6/14/11)and after hearing the indictment read aloud by the judge I was sickened. What these 2 disgusting people did to those children was awful! They both deserve long jail terms and to be raped on a daily basis while serving their sentences!I asked to be dismissed from the jury as I was molested as a child and could not be impartial. Truly disturbing things were done to those poor children...

I was disqualified as a jury member for this trial in 2012. 49 counts read to potential jurors with the final count being he did not perform his duties as a police officer and arrest his girlfriend when she was involved with illegal acts with the minor girls. As angry as I was with the possibility they commited these acts... my focus was on the kids and what they must have been feeling and thinking as this happened. They are taught to respect alduts and turn to the police for protection. If found guilty, I hope they get the cell-mate that will ensure they experience the feeling of knowing first hand what it is like to be molested over and over and over again. I know it is not my place to judge but it is hard not to!
