[Excerpts] It looks quiet now, but law enforcement believe in a Timpson house, a brutal murder played out, one authorities think included a history of violent abuse... Authorities said a mentally disabled Allen Calhoun's death was a result of homicidal violence. Texas Ranger Pete Maskunas said he died during a severe beating... "Being the fact that this was an employee of mine that was being looked at on this occasion, I prefer an outside agency such as the Texas Rangers to conduct the investigation," Sheriff Newton Johnson said. After he was arrested for his brother's death and charged with capital murder, [Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy] Rex Calhoun was terminated from his position at the sheriff's department. But, Johnson said the narcotics officer was a good employee. "I never had any problems with him, no ma'm I sure did not," Johnson said. "He worked well with what we were doing as far as the narcotics and did a good job"... [Full article here]

[Excerpts] ...Investigators say they worked overnight collecting the evidence necessary to make the case.  They are releasing few specifics about what they found, but they do say evidence discovered Thursday night at [Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy Rex] Calhoun's house "linked him as an active participate" in the murder of his brother,  Allen Calhoun, 56. Other evidence suggest remuneration might have been a contributing motive in the Timpson man's death.  Chief investigator Kevin Windham declined to say specifically how remuneration factored into the charge... Lana Calhoun, 50, is married to Rex Calhoun, and she was arrested by the Texas Rangers late Thursday evening on a capital murder charge... According to lead investigator Texas Ranger Pete Maskunas, Allen Calhoun died during a severe beating. A seven-month long investigation led Texas Rangers and other Shelby County law enforcement agencies to make the arrest. It was during their investigation that they discovered Allen Calhoun had been abused over an extended period of time, according to Kevin Windham, chief investigator of the Shelby County D.A.'s office... According to Windham, witnesses told authorities they had watched Allen Calhoun rummage through garbage cans searching for food during his brief employment at Wal Mart... The sheriff's office fired Rex Calhoun upon his arrest... [Full article here]

It is so hard to believe that Rex would be capable of doing this to his brother. I grew up knowing these boys and their elder brother John Michael. Our dads were in the service together. My sister and I called their parents Aunt Connie and Uncle Johnny...we loved them dearly. Apparently, Rex let Satan come into his life and lead him to a path of perdition.

I grew up with Rex and Alan. Even though I lost touch with Rex in the last dozen years, I never believed him capable of allowing or participating in such an act of this nature. The whole incident saddens me greatly. Many lives will be destroyed or disrupted by this event. I believe that Rex deserves his day in court. If Rex is found guilty then the maximum allowable punishment should be handed out.

As a person that knew both and a former officer, shows you never know.

This should not have happened in our FAMILY!
(which means FATHER AND MOTHER I LOVE YOU)
These boys loved and respected there Father and Mother and were raised in a great enviroment with no family violence and I was part of that family until the (SHE DEVIL) met up with Rex!! Our son hardly had a realtionship with his father because of her and Thank God nothing happened to my son the very few times he went up there! May Alan rest in peace and we miss and love you dearly!!!!! Another angel to watch over us!!!!!

  6. It has to be awful. It's awful to hear about not even knowing the people involved.

The idea of another angel is very beautiful.

I'm sorry that your family is going through this.

I am heart broken. I was a part of the family since the boys were about 9 and 10 years old. Went lots of places with them. All of the family was my whole life. I helped take care of Alen when he had his car accident. Alen was in a coma for months. We thought we would loose him then, but through alot of pray from everyone that knew him, God brought him back to us. Alen loved family and was so fond of his neice and nephews. This is to you Alen, If we had known you needed our prays , we would have brought you home safely again. But in my heart I know God has a plan for you How great and special you must feel. I love you Alen.

Until punishment is also passed down to those that cover these crime up (other law enforcement officials)horendous acts like this will continue. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Alen. What a sad tradgedy!!! My heart and prayers go to all that are still living in fear of a violent family member or ex-family member that hides behind their badge. NOBODY should live in fear of their life!!!!!!!!!

Scripture tells us in Numbers 32:23 "your sin will find you out". Rex fall on your face and truly beg for forgiviness. You cannot imagine the hell that will be waiting for you if you do not turn to your GOD. My precious Allen, I know you are in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has wiped away every tear and misery you have gone though.
I love you and will see you when my journey has ended.

  11. Allen Calhoun was my next door neighbor in Pearland, TX for years. I didn't know him very well because of our age difference but my father and Johnny, Allen's father, were friends. I distinctly remember Johnny as being one of the kindest, most gentlest and humble human beings I have ever met in my life. I can't even imagine his son doing such a horrendous thing to Allen having had a father like Johnny. Johnny would have been appalled knowing how Rex treated and what he did to Allen. It is hard me to believe such evil lives among us.

I wad a family member who knew Lana sue was a bad women. It's scary because if released I don't want my children exposed to her. I had many family holidays with her knowing she was toxic. It's sad and the cover up is atrocious. Bless him and I hope she remains in jail forever.
