A 15-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department was arrested Tuesday in connection with a family violence incident. Victor Aguirre was booked into the El Paso County Jail on one count of Burglary of Habitation, a first-degree felony, with a $30,000 bond. The investigation began about 4 a.m. Friday, when officers were called to the 3000 block of Wayside on a burglary in progress call. The preliminary investigation revealed Aguirre went to his ex-common-law wife Teresa Ortega's residence shortly after 4:00 a.m., where he forced his way into the house. Ortega, 33, attempted to hide from Aguirre by locking herself in a bedroom. Aguirre forced his way into the bedroom where he physically assaulted Ortega, police said. Aguirre fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival. Because an El Paso Police officer was involved, the department's Special Investigations Group took over the investigation. Detective arrested Aguirre on Tuesday and obtained a emergency protection order against Aguirre for the protection of Ortega.

According to Assistant Chief of Police Tom Whitten, if Aguirre is found guilty he will be kicked off the police force, since burglary of habitation carries a felony charge.
