    Jun 17, 2009

(JOLIET) The family of Irma Rodriguez, an Oak Forest mother of three who was found shot dead in the trunk of her car earlier this month, fear so much for their safety they have filed an emergency order of protection against Rodriguez's estranged husband.

Irma Rodriguez's youngest child and her sister wrote they are "terrified of Norberto Rodriguez," according to the June 9 petition, which says police recommended the sister seek an order on behalf of Irma Rodriguez's youngest child and her family. The boy is "is fearful because he believes that his father brutally murdered his mother," according to court papers.

It's not clear where Norberto Rodriguez is. Several phone numbers listed for his name are disconnected, including a phone number to Irma Rodriguez's home in the 15400 block of Alameda Drive in Oak Forest.

Irma Rodriguez's family reported her missing May 31. A day later, a police officer found Rodriguez's body in the trunk of her white 2002 Pontiac Grand Am at 148th Street and Kilpatrick Avenue in Midlothian. Police have yet to name any suspects and have revealed few details about the case.

A Will County judge granted the protection order June 9. It requires Noberto Rodriguez to stay away from his late wife's sister, her husband, daughter and son as well as Irma Rodriguez's two minor children. Irma Rodriguez had a 17-year-daughter and a son in his 20s from a previous marriage, but she and Norberto Rodriguez had a 14-year-old son together.

Norberto and Irma Rodriguez were due in divorce court the day her body was discovered. The convicted heroin dealer and ex-Chicago Police officer lost his job on the force after a 1997 incident in which he shot his wife in the hand during an argument, though he was acquitted of criminal charges in the case.

Irma Rodriguez got a protective order against her then-husband in 2001, claiming he threatened to kill her and dragged her out of the house and down stairs by her legs. She terminated the order three weeks later.
