RALEIGH – The SBI has charged a Robeson County deputy with assaulting his girlfriend. Charles Shaw, 35, was arrested Friday and charged with assault by strangulation and assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He is in the Cumberland County Jail and is on leave without pay while authorities investigate. He has been with the sheriff's office since August 2001.
