FORT WORTH OFFICER FACES FELONY CHARGES

[Excerpts] A Fort Worth police officer who garnered attention and awards after pulling an Arlington officer from a burning car in 2004 now faces felony charges after police say he assaulted his wife and shot a gun at an acquaintance. Cpl. Yatashka Jefferson, who has been with the Fort Worth Police Department for about eight years, surrendered at the Tarrant County Jail on Thursday afternoon on warrants accusing him of aggravated assault, assault and burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony other than theft. He was immediately released after posting bail... The major-case unit is conducting the criminal investigation, and the internal-affairs unit is handling the administrative investigation. Jefferson, who had most recently been assigned to the criminal tracking unit, was placed on restricted duty. He is prohibited from wearing a uniform or carrying a gun or badge... [Full article here]
