[Excerpts] Officer Kenneth Freeman of the Chattanooga Police Department is off duty because of alleged domestic assault to a girlfriend. According to a police report filed early Saturday morning, Officer Freeman threatened to kill the girlfriend after she jokingly said she'd call his wife... After making the initial statement the victim said she blew the situation out of proportion. But a neighbor of the victim tells us the two have had altercations in the past... The police report says the couple was drinking vodka and cranberry juice at an apartment in Alpine Villas Friday night. According to the report, Officer Freeman was in possession of his gun. "That's something we are looking into," Lt. Noorbergen said Monday. "There's allegations that there was alcohol. That Officer Freeman was drinking and if he was armed that could be a violation of our policy"... Since 1997 there have also been 26 citizen complaints against Freeman, but more than half have been unfounded. Lt. Noorbergen says the high number of complaints is because he works in high-crime areas. Lt. Noorbergen says Internal Affairs typically tries to finish investigations within 30 days.
