A California Highway Patrol officer facing a felony charge of inflicting corporal injury to his wife pleaded not guilty Monday in Sutter County Superior Court, according to the District Attorney's Office.
A Dec. 18 preliminary hearing was set for Richard Joseph Handwork, 44, who is also facing a misdemeanor charge of willful cruelty to a child.
Handwork, a 15-year CHP veteran, has been assigned to administrative duties since his arrest Oct. 2, said Capt. Jim Young of the CHP's Yuba-Sutter office.
Handwork, of the 1900 block of Bradley Estates Drive, Yuba City, is free on $50,000 bail.
