[TX] San Antonio Police Officer Rozacky "resigns" after 3rd cop-on-cop domestic violence related arrest.

San Antonio Police Officer Jason Rozacky, accused of assaulting his police officer ex-girlfriend, has resigned after being arrested for the 3rd time in just over a month.

(I had a really sick - ominous - feeling in my stomach while preparing this post. I will turn that into prayer.)

...the woman realized the man was inside her house... She grabbed her Glock pistol from the nightstand... and found Rozacky at the foot of her stairs. While aiming the gun at Rozacky, authorities said the woman told him to leave her home. Instead, he walked up the stairs toward her. When he was halfway up, he charged her and the two struggled over the weapon...

Police Chief William McManus:
"My job is to protect the public trust, and these incidents erode that trust... Shame on the few officers who would tarnish the badge."

Mike Helle, President of the San Antonio Police Officers Association President Mike Helle:
"It is an anomaly, and it's not one that we're proud of."

[Excerpts] A San Antonio police officer accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend has been arrested for a third time in a little over a month. Jason Rozacky, 36, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of stalking... He has since resigned from the police force... Police officials would not say if the incident was related to an Aug. 26 incident in which he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and assaulted her. Rozacky was also arrested Sept. 23 on a charge of tampering with witnesses that police officials said was connected to the August case. [Full article here]

A San Antonio police officer under investigation in a break-in at his former girlfriend's house has resigned after being arrested a third time. Authorities said the most recent offense involved stalking... That ends his 14-year career with the SAPD... Rozacky, 36, remained in Bexar County Jail late Wednesday in lieu of posting $250,000 bail... Mike Helle, president of the San Antonio Police Officers Association, said this is the first officer he knows of to be arrested three times since he joined the organization 20 years ago. "It is an anomaly, and it's not one that we're proud of," Helle said. "Like anyone else, he is innocent until proven guilty... What people do behind closed doors is never known, but I've never known him to be like that," Helle said. Rozacky was first arrested Aug. 26, six days after the ex-girlfriend's home was broken into and she was assaulted. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office charged him with burglary with intent to commit assault, and Rozacky was asked to relinquish his duty weapon... Rozacky also was placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an internal SAPD investigation. As that investigation proceeded, authorities arrested Rozacky a second time Sept. 23 on a charge of tampering with a witness. Details of that offense are unknown because a state district judge has sealed the affidavit filed to obtain the arrest warrant... Rozacky was released from jail Sept. 24 after posting bail on $75,000 bond. Authorities also placed a monitor around his ankle, Benavides said, in order to protect the witness and the victim from the original assault case. At about 5:30 p.m. the next day, Rozacky's ex-girlfriend contacted officers to report that someone had called her crying, saying Rozacky wasn't able to go out to eat with his family because of his ankle monitor... Rozacky then got on the phone and began yelling at her, saying: "My parents are going to be calling you and you better (expletive) answer your phone and you better (expletive) answer their questions"... he continued spewing profanities at her until she hung up, the report states. Rozacky called again 15 minutes later, but she didn't answer the phone... "He was continuing to place fear in our victim for being the complainant in the criminal case against him"... Benavides said the Police Department has ceased its internal investigation of Rozacky since he resigned. "Rozacky will now have to answer to the three criminal charges against him," he said. "These cases against this one officer are definitely an isolated incident (for the department)"... [Full article here]

A San Antonio police officer already under investigation for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house was arrested again Wednesday on suspicion of tampering with witnesses possibly associated with that case, officials said. Jason Rozacky, 36, was charged with tampering with a witness and remained in the Bexar County Jail late Wednesday, according to county records. His bond was set at $75,000... Mathew Porter, a spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department, confirmed that the newest charge stems from an internal Police Department investigation of that previous charge. Other details were not immediately available... [Full article here]

FROM AUGUST:

OFFICER SUSPECTED OF BREAKING INTO WOMAN'S HOME
Express-News

A 36-year-old San Antonio police officer is free on bond after he was arrested Wednesday in connection with a recent burglary, authorities said. Jason Rozacky posted $20,000 bond at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, less than 45 minutes after he turned himself in on a warrant in connection with an Aug. 20 incident. He faces one charge of burglary with intent to commit assault... According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Rozacky started calling a woman in Bexar County at about 3 p.m. last Thursday. She told him she didn't want to see him that night and had other plans, but Rozacky reportedly continued to call her, authorities said. A guest arrived at the victim's home around 5 p.m. for dinner that evening, the affidavit states. But someone continued to call the woman. Several hours later, at about 10 p.m., someone started banging on the front door and shining a flashlight through the windows. A man yelled for the woman to come outside and talk to him, the affidavit states. The woman told deputies that she went upstairs to watch TV with her guest in an attempt to get away from the man, and she said she didn't want to call authorities at that time becuase she didn't want to get him into trouble... "and she did not want to add to his problems." An hour later, the woman realized the man was inside her house. She muted the TV and told her guest to stay put, the affidavit said. She grabbed her Glock pistol from the nightstand, the affidavit continued, and found Rozacky at the foot of her stairs. While aiming the gun at Rozacky, authorities said the woman told him to leave her home. Instead, he walked up the stairs toward her. When he was halfway up, he charged her and the two struggled over the weapon before Rozacky's cell phone began to ring, the affidavit said. She followed him downstairs and demanded to know how he got in. The affidavit states that eventually, Rozacky said he used a key that the woman kept hidden for her son. The affidavit does not state exactly how Rozacky got away from the woman's home. [Full article here]

SAPD STEPS UP TO KEEP COPS IN LINE

After noticing an upswing in the number of officers getting into trouble, Police Chief William McManus declared Thursday his department would provide additional training to its rank-and-file to help keep them from being fired. McManus' announcement came the same day it was revealed a San Antonio officer had been arrested after his former girlfriend accused him of breaking into her home and assaulting her last week. Jason Rozacky, who is 36 and a 14-year veteran of the Police Department, surrendered to authorities Wednesday and was charged with burglary with intent to commit assault... If the charge is substantiated, and McManus decides to indefinitely suspend Rozacky, the officer would be the 10th person effectively fired this year from the Police Department. That's more than double the number of officers who were placed on indefinite suspension last year... "My job is to protect the public trust, and these incidents erode that trust," McManus said in announcing the new training efforts. "Shame on the few officers who would tarnish the badge." McManus did not mention specifics, but said he wanted to focus heavily on increased cadet, roll call and in-service training. He said he plans on personally speaking with cadets about unwanted behavior, hoping it will steer them away from potential problems. "We will continue our zero-tolerance policy for misconduct," the chief said... Rozacky's former girlfriend, [MT], a police officer at the San Antonio International Airport, told Bexar County deputies he sneaked into her Northeast Side home and assaulted her after she refused to open the door for him Aug. 20... Rozacky called and sent text messages to Turner more than a dozen times that day. "He would not stop," said Deputy Ino Badillo, a spokesman of the Bexar County Sherriff's Office... Rozacky was able to find a key to the door and went inside.... [MT] sustained minor injuries to her left hand and left leg but refused medical treatment... Rozacky drove away in his vehicle, and [MT] called 911. Rozacky was gone by the time deputies arrived... [Full article here]

FORMER SAPD DENIES 2009 BREAK-IN: Defense opens in burglary trial.
San Antonio Express-News
By Jessica Kwong, Thursday, December 8, 2011
San Antonio police officer Jason Rozacky entered the house of his ex-girlfriend, SAPD officer Melissa Turner, uninvited and injured her as they struggled over a gun, his defense attorney acknowledged Wednesday. But the key thing for jurors to understand was the relationship the two had at the time, attorney Jimmy Parks Jr. said in opening arguments at Rozacky's burglary trial.
“How was he was able to get into a gated community, find the key to the house, know a ceiling fan had been taken apart?” Parks asked jurors. “I will show that this case boils down to her credibility.” Rozacky, 38, could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of the second degree felony... FELONY TRIAL OF FORMER SAPD OFFICER COMES TO AN ABRUPT END: Burglary charge dropped after defense challenges credibility of man's accuser.
San Antonio Express-News
By Craig Kapitan, San Antonio Express-News Updated 2:44 am, Friday, December 9, 2011
Prosecutors dropped a burglary charge against former San Antonio Police officer Jason Rozacky, bringing a sudden end Thursday afternoon to his felony jury trial. The decision came after two days of testimony from his accuser — ex-girlfriend and fellow officer Melissa Turner — in which her credibility was repeatedly brought into question by the defense. “Newly discovered evidence” brought up by the defense “changed the nature of the case,” said Adriana Biggs, chief of the district attorney's office white collar crimes division... Rozacky, who still has two other felony charges pending against him for tampering with a witness and the alleged stalking of another woman, declined to comment...[Full article here]

  1. What a shame, I know that he had been in trouble before and all the department did was send him to the property room, and he and others there continue to do wrong. To have cameras in that department I don't know how workers are able to get away with doing bad stuff.

  2. He seems to never have been charged for the said / alleged assault mentioned above despite the reported injuries to his police officer ex-girlfriend, his felony burglary charges were dropped after finding dirt from the past on her, and the media never followed through on the remaining felony charges - stalking and tampering with a witness. Seem to have just blown away with the wind.
