[CA] Mendocino County Undersheriff Hudson arrested, charged with domestic violence

The 49-year-old woman received a scalp injury... Some of the woman's hair was pulled out during the scuffle, according to her father... [Excerpts] Police say Mendocino County Undersheriff Gary Hudson has been arrested on suspicion of felony domestic battery after volunteering information to authorities. Ukiah police Capt. Justin Wyatt says the 53-year-old Hudson had a verbal argument with a woman identified as his domestic partner... Wyatt says the 49-year-old woman received a scalp injury but did not require medical treatment; Hudson received scratches on his upper body. [Excerpts] The number two officer at the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office was arrested for alleged domestic violence Monday, booked into jail and later released on $25,000 bail. According to the Sheriff's Department booking log, which is available online, Gary W. Hudson was arrested by Ukiah Police Officer Chris Long at about 7 p.m. under suspicion of corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant... When officers contacted the victim, Wyatt said they determined Hudson was the "primary aggressor" and arrested him. She was granted a protective order that prohibits contact... Hudson's photo was withheld from the booking log, per Government Code 3303, also known as the Police Officer's Bill of Rights. GC3303 section (e) states, "The employer shall not... without his or her express consent [allow] his or her home address or photograph be given to the press or news media." [Excerpts] People who know Mendocino County Undersheriff Gary Hudson as an advocate for abused women were struggling Wednesday to understand his arrest on a domestic violence charge. “I was quite frankly shocked,” said Jim Mastin, a former Ukiah mayor... Some of the woman's hair was pulled out during the scuffle, according to her father... Afterward, Hudson went to Ukiah Police to volunteer information that resulted in his arrest for suspicion of felony domestic battery, Wyatt said. Hudson moved out of the home about a month ago and was retrieving his belongings when the incident occurred... Hudson was on leave from the sheriff's department for apparent health reasons when the alleged domestic violence episode occurred. He has since been placed on administrative leave and is the subject of both criminal and internal affairs investigations...
