[TN] FAMILY OF SLAIN SHARI BETHEL CARTMELL FLEE STATE IN FEAR AS DA ACKNOWLEDGES POTENTIAL DANGER

...[Now-fired Nashville Police Officer Deon] Cartmell has given three accounts about what occurred inside the couple's East Nashville home the day his wife, 24, died, according police testimony detailed in court documents...

..."A person charged with a serious crime like this doesn't need to have that many weapons around, especially when there's a lot of tension between the families," said Tom Thurmond, assistant district attorney...

Charlotte Barbour

...Shari Cartmell's mother [Charlotte Barbour] said she feels her safety is in danger with her son-in-law being out of jail... Shari Cartmell's family said they've received threatening e-mails and fear they'll be hurt with their in-law being out of jail, so they've left Tennessee. "He could do anything to any of us"...

There's always another gun, and with his law enforcement career gone, why isn't Deon Cartmell AT LEAST considered a flight risk? With nothing much to left lose after making starkly contradictory statements regarding Shari's death, why isn't Deon Cartmell considered a potential risk to himself and others? Why is there no explanation in the news for why the court has completely disregarded the fear of Shari's family? Shari's heartbroken and still-grieving family has to go on the run and hide? Really?

EX-POLICE OFFICER CHARGED IN WIFE'S DEATH TO MAKE BOND
The Tennessean

[Excerpts] A decommissioned Metro Police officer charged with the murder of his wife likely will bail out of jail Wednesday after surrendering his guns to police, his attorney said. Deon Cartmell faced a judge Tuesday afternoon in a bond source hearing where his uncle Chester Godwin testified he will use $25,000 from an AllState insurance settlement from damage to his home. Cartmell also is using two bondsman companies to make the $250,000 bail. His family must surrender his 10 handguns, rifles and shotguns to the Metro Police Department property room before he will be allowed to post bond... While out on bond, Cartmell must wear an electronic monitoring device and abide by a 10 p.m. curfew. He is forbidden from touching guns, cannot leave the county and may not have any contact with his wife’s family or anyone related to the case, other than his attorney. [LINK]

[Excerpts] NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A former Metro police officer charged in his wife's death will be released from jail until his trial. Deon Cartmell's uncle put up the $250,000 cash bond Tuesday... "A person charged with a serious crime like this doesn't need to have that many weapons around, especially when there's a lot of tension between the families," said Tom Thurmond, assistant district attorney. Cartmell is expected to be released sometime Wednesday. Shari Cartmell's mother said she feels her safety is in danger with her son-in-law being out of jail. [LINK]

EX-NASHVILLE OFFICER ACCUSED IN WIFE'S SLAYING MUST SURRENDER GUNS: Conditions for release include turning in collection of weapons
The Tennessean

July 28, 2010
[Excerpts] A former Metro Police officer accused of killing his wife could be released from jail as early as today after his guns are surrendered to police. Deon Cartmell is charged with murder in the March 16 shooting death of his wife, Shari, who he claimed shot herself in the head. A police investigation has led back to Cartmell, 23, who was an officer at the time of the shooting... "If I find you are in violation of the conditions of this bond, let (there) be no question in your mind that (this) bond will be revoked," said Criminal Court Judge Randall Wyatt. Cartmell has given three accounts about what occurred inside the couple's East Nashville home the day his wife, 24, died... Investigators said his account of his wife's death did not match the evidence. They found blood splattered on his clothing, suggesting he shot her at close range... His attorney Jim Todd said Cartmell gave several guns to a police officer friend after the shooting. Those guns also must be turned in to authorities. Todd said an earlier police account that his client accidentally shot his wife as they were cleaning a gun is false... [LINK]

IN-LAWS MOVE IN FEAR OF EX-OFFICER'S JAIL RELEASE: Deon Cartmell Charged In Wife's Killing
WSMV
Reported By Jonathan Martin
July 28, 2010
[Excerpts] ...Deon Cartmell is expected to be released on bond Wednesday when the weapons are removed from the home, and his in-laws said they are so worried about their safety once he's out that they've moved to get away from him. Police took out rifles, pistols, bows and arrows [crossbow] from Cartmell's north Nashville home Wednesday... But Shari Cartmell's family said they've received threatening e-mails and fear they'll be hurt with their in-law being out of jail, so they've left Tennessee. "He could do anything to any of us," said Charlotte Barbour, Shari's mother... Barbour said Deon Cartmell lied about her daughter's death, telling police she shot herself. She said even though his weapons have been confiscated and he's been ordered to stay away from them, she believes he can't be trusted... Deon Cartmell's attorney said no one should rush to judgment. "He has only been indicted; he has not been convicted," said Jim Todd. "He's presumed innocent and has a right to trial, like everybody else"... [LINK

WOMAN AFRAID TO BE HOME AFTER BOND REDUCTION: Charlotte Barbour's Son-In-Law Charged In Her Daughter's Death
WSMV
Reported By Regina Raccuglia
POSTED: 2:28 pm CDT June 23, 2010
UPDATED: 10:59 am CDT June 24, 2010
[Excerpts] A Nashville mother said she's scared to sleep in her own home now that the man charged in her daughter's death is one step closer to freedom. Former Metro police Officer Deon Cartmell was decommissioned from his position after he was charged in the death of his wife, Shari Cartmell. Tuesday, a Metro judge reduced his bond. Charlotte Barbour said she never stops missing her daughter. "We miss her," Barbour said. "Her friends call us, and they miss her, and they're not understanding how did this happen?" Three months ago, Shari was found shot dead in her Nashville home. Cartmell was in court a couple weeks ago asking a judge to reduce his $300,000 bond. Tuesday, the judge did just that by reducing it by $50,000. That's just enough to terrify Barbour, she said. "I only have two kids," she said. "Shari's always here in my heart. Now, I only have one walking this earth." Barbour said she doesn't feel safe at home. "We're running. We're scared," she said. In court, family members testified they have received death threats after Cartmell's arrest. Now Barbour said she fears the threats won't stop at words. "He's not remorseful. He doesn't seem to have a conscience," she said. Cartmell remains in a jail cell. His family declined to comment. He must go through a bond source hearing before he is able to bond out at his reduced amount. His next scheduled court date is July 7. [LINK]

CONSTANT CRIES NEED TO GO OUT AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENC OF ANY KIND AND AGAINST ANY PERSON. BEING AFILIATED WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOULD NEVER GIVE THE APPEARANCE OF SPECIAL TREATMENT! MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO SHARI'S MOTHER, CHARLOTTE BARBOUR AND THEIR FAMILY!!

  2. Funny how U only post stuff from her side of the family!!!!

  3. Not true. YOU SPECIFICALLY were SO foul that there was NO way your evil was going to make it on here. Just evil.

And there have been a couple of angry posts by people who love Shari and/or believe that Deon murdered Shari that were too toxic to post too.

Instead of checking here to see if your words made it online to do their damage you need to

    check your heart.

  4. It's not any fouler than that BS Tangela, Erica, and especially Shae has been putting on here. Nothing but PROFANITY and LIES! Ask them to check theirs!!!!

  5. Okay. That's said. Now try to not fight here anymore (everyone) and just share info and feelings without attacking anyone. It won't help Deon and it can't help Shari. Nobody's happy. Nobody wins. It's one huge awful situation that has hurt a lot of people and broken so many hearts. Added aggravation is just cruel at this point, no matter which direction it comes from or which direction it's aimed.

  7. ERICA (SHARIS' BIG COUSIN)August 23, 2010

THIS IS ERICA AND I HAVENT POSTED ANYTHING FOUL OR ANY BS....SHARI IS MY BABY COUSIN THAT I LOVE AND AS I SAID BEFORE WHEN SHE INTRODUCED DEON AS HER BOYFRIEND AND THEN HER HUSBAND WE ACCEPTED HIM WITH OPEN ARMS THE ONLY THING FOUL ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION IS THE FACT THAT THE TRUTH IS STILL UNTOLD AND THE PERSON WHO MURDERED HAS YET TO ANSWER FOR THEIR ACTIONS... BUT HEAR THIS THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ON THIS EARTH TO THAT PERSON THAT WILL BRING OUR BELOVED SHARI BACK BUT ONE DAY THEY WILL SURLEY HAVE TO ANSWER TO THE TRUE JUDGE AND JURY AND THAT IS A PLACE THAT THEIR LIES WILL GO NO FURTHER...... IF YOU FEEL THAT WHAT I JUST WROTE IS FOUL THEN OH WELL

  8. Erica,
You are so right, NOTHING will bring this lovely, wonderful young lady back, including telling all sorts of LIES just because someone did not like her husband!!! GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY!!!!, SO, the truth WILL come out. I understand people don't like other people, but telling lies, and trying to get other people to lie is just plain WRONG!!! Some peoples mind is already made up, no matter what the officials say!!! Some will say, "they just taking up for him cause he's a police" Can't please everyone!!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. AYNONYMOS,
NO TELLING LIES WON'T BRING HER BACK. I'M TALKING ABOUT FACTS AND FACTS ONLY. AS I SAID BEFORE BEING AN OFFICER HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN TO TELL THE ACTUAL ACCOUNT OF WHAT WENT ON IN HIS ORGINAL STATEMENT NOT SEVEREL DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS. AND NO ONE WILL BE HAPPIER WHEN THE TRUTH DOES COME OUT THEN SHARIS' FAMILY. THIS IS NOT ABOUT NOT LIKING HIM THIS IS ABOUT A LIFE GONE WAY TO SOON. PLEASE UNDERSTAND I'M TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO MY KIDS WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR BELOVED COUSIN AND THEY DON'T QUIT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN TO SHARI. WHAT WE WANT IS AN ANSWER AS TO HOW AN EX-MARINE/POLICE OFFICER ALLOWS A LOADED WEAPON IN HIS HOUSE........YOU WOULD THINK THAT HE KNEW THE DANGERS OF GUNS AND PLAYING WITH GUNS....DONT YA THINK, YOU KNOW IF YOU BELIEVE THIS ACCOUNT. AND PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST YOUR NAME......COWARD. SEE YOU IN COURT!

  10. To the response, yes they are taught that in the Police Academy, but what did the arriving officer say, "SELF INFLICTED WOUND", and everyone just refuse to believe that, gotta have somebody to blame!!!

  11. It's hard to know what to post.

That last comment shows that the person is blocking out any information discovered by the investigation. They are relying only on the first officer on the scene. It would be nice to be compassionate and not argue with that idea - in order to minimize arguing about things that aren't going to be a part of trial.

I posted it because the person deserves to be heard and so that it's known that there is still a lot of different views out there.

Know what you know and save your strength for the hard days ahead. Take good care of each other.

Shari will not be forgotten, and whatever justice that can be had - is coming.

I am one of Shari cousins and I dont know her husband what so ever. But to come on here anonymous shows a person who is ashamed of your own opinion of the situation. Her family is not the one on trisl nor are we the ones sitting in court with hard face. If he was a man who loved his wife, he would be hurt not only for being accused but that his wife is dead. Right there tells me, he hiding something. I am only seeing what is being showed to me by both sides. I love my lil cousin and will miss her dearly but the responsible party will get theirs. If it was an accident so be it but a blind man can see that is bullcrap. If it was your family you would have a different opinion about it as well...Why is my fam running and getting threatening email and calls? Why is this so called man sitting there hard face while my cousin is in her grave? Why is the friends and family of this person man given no sympathy to the Shari family. Your loved one is still here, ours is not. To anonymous, 1) you have no more to say when you cant ID yourself cuz you know your wrong 2) Imma pray for you and that mans family that the wrath of God is merciful because you showed Shari and her family none.

I for one would like to know ONE lie that was told on him! Please let me know because Im lost. It will all come out on MAY 9,2011 and thats the bottom line. You have a right to you opinion but I would like to know who said I Antoya Brandon, never liked Deon. i accepted Deon, let him around my children, matter of fact he even kept my oldest daughter on one occassion, UNTIL i found out how he treated my sister. So before anyone starts to quote me please know your facts, I could have gave a damn if my sister married a midget on stilits as long as she was treated right, but once I fund out otherwise your right I sure didtn want to be around him. but please remember who is on trial, that aint me, that aint my family, thats your friend or family member and you have to livbe with you are justifying something that has not justification. If it helps you sleep good at night, then continue believing what u choose, but keep my name out your mouth!!!

  14. I KNOW THAT'S RIGHT 9/21, THE TRUTH WILL SET HIM FREE! MAY SEEM SUSPICIOUS, BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS, AN ACCIDENT! HARD FOR SOME TO BELIEVE! BUT GOD ( AND SHARI) WILL BE SURE THAT THE TRUTH IS KNOWN! JUST HOPE SOME WILL BE ABLE TO ACCEPT THAT!!

  18. Everyone knows that? Really? Wow. I think the best thing to do is let the case facts be handled, presented, and decided in court instead of playing amateur (incorrect) CSI over the real death of Shari. It's not a game or an alley fight. It's a murder and let justice come.

  24. First id like to say how could anyone who loves shari let it come out if their mouth making a mountain out of a mole hill. If my sisters death wasn't a mountain I don't know what is.
Secondly in regards to acting civilized at trial I would hope individuals who are not related to shari would stay in their lane and show respect to her family.if not them it is what it is!

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Let that be some encouraging to the family, he may have took her human life, but she will awake in a better place. So this fear he's pumping out, he's nothing.
Bless the family Lord, she's in a better place, but for this man, if guilty, may he perish in Hell.

  28. I just watched this story on Fatal vows and I'm so glad he got punished but he definitely deserved more. Shari was a beautiful young woman and didn't deserve what happened to her. And that fool of a husband had the nerve to try a d hide behind suicide when blood splatter in his shirt and that poor attempt to 'start a chicken dinner' gave him right away.. Hopefully he is playing the battered wife to a big dude named Tiny in prison now.... Rest in Paradise Shari...

  29. Glad that sorry murdering motherfucker was found guilty! He should have received life with no parole. Hope he leaves prison in a pine box after getting his fucked up head bashed in. He's a sorry piece of shit.
