[Excerpts] A St. Joseph County police officer accused of defacing and vandalizing her ex-boyfriend's boat has received a 10-day suspension without pay, according to county police. Staci Van Schoiack, 50, was charged last month with criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor. But criminal charges against Van Schoiack will be dismissed if she meets the requirements of a pre-trial diversion program... Van Schoiack's ex-boyfriend, county Patrolman Everett "Ray" Warren, told police someone scratched the words "THE CHEATER" in his boat's aluminum hull, scattered dog feces inside the boat, gouged the wooden seats with tools and removed the hull identification tag. The trailer was also damaged, with lights broken and wires cut. When questioned by police, Van Schoiack admitted to using tools to damage the seats and hull and said she "could have" been the one responsible for the dog feces, according to charging documents... POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH BOAT VANDALISM
WSBT
By JEFF PARROTT
Jul 30, 2010
[Excerpts] Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against a St. Joseph County police officer, alleging she defaced and vandalized her ex-boyfriend’s boat. Cpl. Staci Van Schoiack (pronounced Van SHOYK) had been in a romantic relationship for several years with county Patrolman Everett "Ray" Warren, and the two officers lived together in her home on U.S. 31 South. But when they broke up earlier this year, Warren moved out and took his things with him... She remains suspended with pay pending the outcome of the criminal case, Assistant Chief Bill Redman said. This is not the first brush with controversy for Van Schoiack, a 24-year veteran of the department. Then-Sheriff Rick Seniff considered her a suspect in the still-unsolved 1999 non-fatal shooting of then-Sgt. Charles Feirrell, with whom she had been romantically involved, Seniff said. She was never charged. She later filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Seniff and other superiors. They reached an out-of-court settlement. On the criminal mischief charge, Van Schoiack was allowed to appear by summons at her initial court hearing, rather than be arrested and booked into the jail... She previously told police that she did not think she was committing a crime because the boat was as much hers as it was Warren’s. But prosecutors say Warren paid for the boat and had it titled in his name. [Full article here]

...She should not be suspended, she should be committed. Something is wrong with her. Definitely not the type of person that should be a cop...
...She gives the department a bad name, and has shown she does not live by the laws she is sworn to enforce. Makes the others who do abide by the rules look bad. She committed a crime, she should NOT have a job.. bad decision for the county!!...
...Ok, this is the third time now that Stacey has been in the news for something that she has done. Shooting another officer, filed a complaint against another and now destroy's another officers property. Apparently she knows someone or something that keeps her from getting fired or getting more time off without pay...
...Another Teflon Cop?? 10 day suspension is a total joke and a slap in the face to the taxpayers paying her wages. If she were a civilian there would have been a arrest, jailed and paying restitution...
...This is what happens when you allow the union to run the police departments. No accountability for officers so that the union can keep them paying dues...
...It's time she was FIRED. She's proved she is emotionally unstable and a danger not only to her fellow officers, but to the community at large...
...Stacie obviously is being protected. This case needs to be dug into VERY deeply. Im not as concerned about Stacie as I am WHY this is the third time...
...I can see the new Sheriff as well as the Prosecuting Attorney have no back bone. Once the Union lets a officer break the law 3 times there is a MAJOR PROBLEM within the department. I would suggest every person who is ticketed demand a TRIAL BY JURY... But wait why no psychological exam to see if she is fit for duty...
...What's going on here with our local police? Sure they are people too and have personal issues but they chose their career to uphold a higher stature...
...Charlie Farrell was shot, and now this. She was never investigated for the shooting, and her record of service is spotty to say the least. Give her the 25 yr pension and retire her, please. I hope Mike Grzegorek cleans up the county police dept after he is sworn in...

Police: No new leads in probe

JASON CALLICOAT and CHRIS BENNINGHOFF
Dec 10, 1999. pg. A.6
[Excerpts] SOUTH BEND--Investigators Thursday made no new determinations about last week's shooting of St. Joseph County Police Sgt. Charles Feirrell, police said. Feirrell told police he was shot in the leg at Mishawaka's University Park Mall, and reports that he may have been shot at another location have not been proven, said Greg Labis, assistant chief of the St. Joseph County Police Department... Labis said Special Crimes officers were talking to Van Schoiack, a 15-year police veteran, because she was the first county officer on the scene after the shooting... Van Schoiack said she was off duty last Friday driving to the mall in her marked patrol car when Mishawaka police officer Alex Arndt pulled up beside her vehicle and told her about Feirrell's call. She said about a half dozen Mishawaka squad cars were on the scene when she arrived... She was notified Wednesday that she'd been transferred from road patrol. Seniff would not go into detail about the transfer, and Van Schoiack said she could only assume it had something to do with the Feirrell investigation. Van Schoiack denied she was involved in either Feirrell's shooting or bomb threats allegedly made later in the day to Tippecanoe Place, where Feirrell was being married. Van Schoiack said she believes false rumors have been spread about her because of her friendship with Feirrell. She said that she and Feirrell are close but do not have a romantic relationship...She said she was not asked to surrender her service weapon, but did give up her patrol car. Van Schoiack also Thursday got a letter from the sheriff temporarily suspending her from duties on the county's Emergency Response Team...
No one indicted in Feirrell shooting:[Indiana

[Excerpts] It may never be known who shot former St. Joseph County police officer Charles Feirrell last December.
A St. Joseph County grand jury review of the case ended Friday with no indictment being issued or criminal charges filed against anyone... Prosecutor Chris Toth said he considers the matter closed as far as his office is concerned, barring the discovery of any new evidence... Toth called Feirrell "the victim" in the matter under investigation. He was one of the key witnesses before the grand jury. Among other witnesses were Susan Feirrell and St. Joseph County police Cpl. Staci Van Schoiack... Toth decided to take the shooting to the grand jury after receiving a 50-page report from the Special Crimes Unit, which ran into uncooperative people during its investigation of the Dec. 3 shooting incident... Although Toth would not discuss the intended targets of the grand jury probe, one is believed to have been Van Schoiack, a close friend of Feirrell's who was off-duty and the first county officer to arrive at the shooting... Van Schoiack said Friday evening she would like to comment but held off because she had not been in touch with her lawyer...
