In April, 2007, Trotwood Police Officer Cedric Ballenger was shot and killed, while off duty. Police arrested his wife, Nicole Ballenger and charged her with murder. She was convicted of Felonious Assault and Involuntary Manslaughter and is serving an 18-years to life sentence in the Ohio Reformatory for Women.
In 2007, Trotwood Police Officer Troy Dexter was shot in his home by his estranged wife, Denae Barnett-Dexter. She shot him several times before he was able to wrestle the gun away from her and flee to a nearby fire station. Troy Dexter recovered from his wounds. His wife, Denae Barnett-Texter was convicted of attempted murder and felonious assault. She is currently serving an 8-year prison term at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.
