[Excerpts] A Christian County sheriff's deputy was arrested this weekend on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon. The incident happened early Saturday morning in Pittsburg, Kansas. Investigators say a woman called 911 and said she and the off-duty deputy were driving back to Missouri when he got out of the car and fired two shots before walking into the woods. [Excerpts] An off-duty Christian County sheriff’s deputy [Brent Paoli] was in custody Saturday on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon following an alleged incident that began near Pittsburg, Kan., and ended in Jasper County... The woman, according to the release, alleged Paoli also fired another shot while she was driving away. Responding officers also reported hearing a shot. A helicopter from the Kansas State Highway Patrol was enlisted to search for Paoli... he was found hiding off Highway 171 by the helicopter... No charges in Kansas have been filed yet, Horton said, and it is unclear which county has jurisdiction. The reported incidents allegedly took place along Highway 171, and it is still to be determined whether they took place in Crawford or Cherokee counties. [Excerpts] ...Just after 2 a.m., Crawford County authorities received a 911 call that a man, identified as Brent Paoli, Nixa, Mo., had gotten out of the vehicle and fired two shots from a 9mm handgun before walking into the woods... “All the shots were fired in Kansas. He later crossed to Missouri. The Highway Patrol requested their night vision helicopter. They knew he was around and it was imperative to locate him and resolve the issue,” said Sandy Horton, Crawford County Sheriff. “The KHP helicopter flew just over the state line, and found him with their equipment laying in a ditch. There were detectives already in the area who responded and arrested him.” Paoli, an off-duty Christian County, Mo., deputy, was arrested for unlawful use of a firearm...
