EVEN THOUGH BOWLAND PREVIOUSLY PLEADED GUILTY TO HARASSMENT IN 2000 IN CONNECTION WITH ANOTHER ASSAULT CASE, SGT. TIM AMRHEIN OF THE JACKSON TOWNSHIP POLICE SAYS: "WE WOULDN’T HAVE HIRED HIM IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES."
Info from several articles combined:
After a TWO HOUR STANDOFF State police at the Butler barracks charged Jackson Township Police Officer Kenneth C. Bowland with two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault, and one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person. Officer Bowland's girlfriend who lives with him reportedly told police that Bowland choked, grabbed, repeatedly punched her in the stomach, and elbowed her in the head, causing her to vomit blood earlier this week. She says that she held back from contacting police after he threatened her and her family, and at one point held a gun to her head - threatening to shoot her. According to a video I watched - if it's accurate - the gun was allegedly held to her face. She [must have closed her eyes because she] says she heard a clicking sound. A friend of hers called state police on the victim's behalf, saying that she feared for the victim's safety. Officer Bowland is currently being held in the Butler County Jail on $25,000 bail. He was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Dec. 29 before Slippery Rock District Justice Timothy Shaffer. Supposedly, Bowland has been on medical leave for about a year and a half. Hmm.
