[Excerpts] A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Detention Officer is behind bars, charged with first-degree murder, after admitting to police he killed his wife. A Phoenix Police report says they were asked to check on the couple by their son Wednesday night. When officers arrived at the home near 40th Street and Shea Boulevard they found Jeffrey Hamlet, 55, with stab wounds... He was asked to put the knife down and when he didn’t, police tased him and took him into custody. Police found Hamlet’s wife, Katherine, 52, dead and wrapped in a blanket. After telling officers he had ingested rat poison and bleach, Hamlet was taken to a local hospital...
